Don Shane, a long term sportscaster, passed away at the age of 70, according to his wife Mona, who joined WXYZ legend Diana Lewis to remember Don and his life. Shane passed away in California, surrounded by his family.
When Don Shane Started His Career As An Anchor?
Shane began his work at Channel 4 in Detroit in the early 1980s. After brief stays in Chicago and Boston, he later returned to Detroit and rose to the position of top sports anchor at Channel 7 in 1989. His on-air chemistry with TV legend Bill Bonds and his energetic attitude helped to make him a star in the highly competitive media market.
Shane covered almost every significant sport in Michigan for 23 years, including the NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Final, Rose Bowls, Final Fours, World Series, and even top boxing events with local fighters.
Along with former Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler, he also hosted the college football pregame programme “Big Ten Ticket.”
Don Shane was a skilled sportscaster and anchor for WXYZ-TV, Michigan, an ABC network in Detroit. He was renowned for his coverage of Detroit sports teams, the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions.
What Happened to Don Shane?
Don Shane's death at the age of 70 was officially announced on February 25 on Saturday. At his California residence, Shane passed away in the presence of his two children, Justin and Lindsay.
By WXYZ or Mona Shane, there was no indication of a reason for death. However, Don Shane has experienced health issues in past years. According to The Detroit News, he has struggled with illness in recent years.
His two daughters and his wife of 38 years, Mona, are left behind. In May of last year, Don and Mona Shane received their first grandchild.
