After brief stays in Chicago and Boston, he later returned to Detroit and rose to the position of top sports anchor at Channel 7 in 1989. His on-air chemistry with TV legend Bill Bonds and his energetic attitude helped to make him a star in the highly competitive media market.
Shane covered almost every significant sport in Michigan for 23 years, including the NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Final, Rose Bowls, Final Fours, World Series, and even top boxing events with local fighters.
Along with former Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler, he also hosted the college football pregame programme “Big Ten Ticket.”
