Peter Bowker is a British dramatist and screenwriter born on January 5, 1959.

He is best known for the television series Desperate Romantics (2009), a biographical drama about the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Occupation (2009), a musical theater about three military personnel adjusting to civilian life after a tour of duty in Iraq, and Blackpool (2004), a musical drama about a shady casino owner.

He transformed Blackpool into Viva Laughlin for CBS in 2007. The BBC World War II drama series World on Fire was his most recent production.

Bowker was born and reared in Hazel Grove, Stockport, and attended Marple Hall School before studying philosophy and English at the University of Leeds.

After teaching for twelve years at a Leeds hospital ward for the intellectually impaired, he went on to get an M.A. in creative writing at the University of East Anglia, where he was mentored by novelists Malcolm Bradbury and Rose Tremain.
