When Gary and Mary do start dating, he quickly changes his mind about his misgivings, which influences how sceptical we are of the next problem, which is whether or not his daughter would accept it. The need to be loved pervades the entire series, but it also removes the worry that Mary's insatiable appetite on a full moon may derail everything. Worse, the storytelling rhythm feels off, which is particularly noticeable in a rom-com.
