News of Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios reuniting for Bambi: The Reckoning was first reported on Dread Central. Jagged Edge Productions produced Blood and Honey, while ITN Studios distributed it internationally. The projected horror adaptation is based on Felix Salten's Bambi, a Life in the Woods, a coming-of-age story first published in Austria in 1923 and then translated into English the following year. The book by Salten that was turned into the classic Disney animated feature Bambi in 1942 is now in the public domain.

Rhys Frake-Waterfield, director of Blood and Honey, serves as producer for Scott Jeffrey's Bambi: The Reckoning. In late January 2023, production is scheduled to commence. In the film, the main character, a white-tailed deer, seeks brutal vengeance after witnessing the murder of his mother.
Jeffrey has stated that Bambi: The Reckoning will be a rather bleak rendition of the 1928 classic everyone loves. “Bambi will be a terrible killing machine that hides in the woods, taking inspiration from the design utilized in Netflix's The Ritual.

This year's Winnie-the-Pooh film, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, directed by Frake-Waterfield, was announced on May 24 and is set to have a one-night theatrical release on February 15, 2023.
