Will There be Longmire Season 7?

Longmire is an American modern Western criminal drama television series created by John Coveny and Hunt Baldwin that premiered on the A&E network on June 3, 2012. The series is based on Craig Johnson‘s Walt Longmire Mysteries series of novels. Walt Longmire, a sheriff in fictional Absaroka County, Wyoming, is at the core of the storey. In investigating big crimes under his authority, he is supported by colleagues, friends, and his daughter.

Longmire was A&E’s “highest-rated original drama series”, however the network announced in August 2014 that the show will not be renewed after the third season. It was presented to various networks by Warner Horizon Television. Then, beginning with season four, Netflix picked it up. On November 17, 2017, Netflix released the sixth and final season. Netflix in North America and Australia has all of the episodes available for streaming and viewing online.

Interesting Story Behind its Making

December 14, 2010, Longmire was given a pilot order. Christopher Chulack directed the pilot, which was written by John Coveny and Hunt Baldwin. Greer Shephard, Michael M. Robin, and the production companies Warner Horizon Television and the Shephard/Robin Company join Coveny, Baldwin, and Chulack as executive producers. The series is based on Craig Johnson’s best-selling Longmire mystery novels. Although the tale is set in northern Wyoming, the series was shot in New Mexico, including Santa Fe, Eagle Nest, Espanola, and Red River, as well as Las Vegas.
The first casting announcements for Sheriff Walt Longmire were made in February 2011, with Robert Taylor being cast first. Following that were Katee Sackhoff, Bailey Chase, Cassidy Freeman, and Lou Diamond Phillips, with Sackhoff playing Victoria “Vic” Moretti, Chase as Branch Connally, Freeman as Cady Longmire, and Phillips as Henry Standing Bear.

The series was picked up by A&E for a 10-episode first season on August 26, 2011. On June 29, 2012, A&E announced that it has been renewed for a second season, citing its early success as the highest-rated summer scripted drama debut and A&E’s highest-rated scripted drama. On November 25, 2013, the network renewed it for a third season.
Massive wildfires ravaged the Valles Caldera National Preserve in 2013, causing the series’ production to be halted. Over the course of three weeks, three fires broke out, two of them at the same time. The Granite Mountain Hotshots of the Prescott Fire Department assisted in preventing the devastation of the region where Walt’s house is filmed. Nineteen of the Hotshots’ twenty members were killed in the Yarnell Hill Fire in Arizona in 2013. The closing credits of the second season’s finale paid tribute to them.

The Fate of Longmire Season 7

When your favourite show gets cancelled, it’s always a disappointment. But nothing beats having your favourite show cancelled twice in a row. Fans of Longmire, a modern Western based on a series of best-selling books by Craig Johnson, experienced something similar. The show stars Australian actor Robert Taylor as Walt Longmire, the dedicated, old-school sheriff of the fictional Absaroka County in Wyoming, and follows Walt and his small staff, which includes deputy Vic Moretti (Katee Sackhoff), as they investigate the many various crimes throughout Walt’s jurisdiction, with plenty of family and personal drama thrown in for good measure.

Why Longmire Season 7 Was Cancelled?

The six-season series premiered on A&E in 2012 but was cancelled after only three seasons. Netflix was eventually able to preserve it, making it one of the fortunate ones to escape death. But, as with all good things, all good things must come to an end, and Longmire came to an end in 2017 after six seasons on Netflix after three extra seasons.

One of the most common reasons for a show’s cancellation is that no one watches it. That was not the case with Longmire. On A&E, the show’s second season averaged nearly six million viewers each episode, making it the network’s most-watched original series in history and a rarity among original scripted cable television. However, by the time it was cancelled, the show’s popularity had plummeted.

While the latter figure is a little underwhelming, the former is more than adequate. Mad Men’s average audience never reached 3 million viewers, while Breaking Bad’s first four seasons each had less than 2 million viewers. New seasons on AMC didn’t start seeing an increase in viewership until the latter series came on Netflix. Even if Longmire’s ratings have declined over time, A&E’s decision to terminate the show was nevertheless stunning.

Wrapping Up

While the cancellation came as a shock, it’s possible to understand why A&E made the decision. Netflix, on the other hand, is exempt from this because it does not rely on advertising revenue. It’s also impossible to know how well the show did because Netflix doesn’t disclose such information.
