Why There Won't Be a Fifth Season of Ozark
In June 2020, it was reported that the show would return for a “supersized” fourth and final season, consisting of 14 episodes split into two parts.
“We're so thrilled that Netflix recognized the necessity of giving Ozark additional time to complete the Byrdes' saga appropriately,” showrunner Chris Mundy said.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, Mundy noted that the decision to stop the program was always up to Netflix, but he'd made it clear to the streaming service that he wanted a warning so he could put it to a satisfying ending.
However, Mundy explained that the decision to end with four seasons was mutually beneficial: “I'd been talking to them about trying to end it in five [seasons], and they weren't sure if they wanted to do four or five, and Netflix is the one that hit upon the idea of doing four seasons but a longer order, with the idea, always being that it would split.”
‘Ozark' Canceled: Why Season 5 Isn't Happening.
Ozark lovers, there will be no Season 5 of the show. Season 4 will be the final season of the Netflix show. Netflix confirmed that Ozark would conclude after four seasons, years before the last episodes aired.
Ozark was set to end with Season 4 in June 2020. Season 4 was announced to be split into two installments of seven episodes each. Showrunner Chris Mundy issued a statement thanking Netflix for allowing them to end the series on their terms.
“We're thrilled Netflix recognized the necessity of giving Ozark more time to conclude the Byrdes saga properly,” Mundy added. “It's been such a tremendous trip for all of us — both on and off-screen — that we're overjoyed to have the opportunity to bring it home in the most rewarding way possible.”
Cindy Holland, former VP of Netflix Original Content, weighed in on the announcement, praising the Ozark crew for generating several seasons of riveting television. “Ozark is a fascinating thriller that has grabbed audiences worldwide and won significant critical acclaim,” she said.
“We're so thankful to Chris, Jason, Laura, Julia, and the entire cast and crew for all of their tireless dedication to the show,” Holland concluded, “and can't wait to see how the Byrdes' adventure concludes.”
