Lee Jihan, who was born on August 3, 1998, initially gained prominence in South Korea's entertainment industry by taking part in the second season of the Korean singing competition Produce 101. There, 101 aspiring K-pop singers competed for 11 spots in a boy band.

Lee, a K-pop trainee at the time signed with Pan Entertainment, auditioned for the show by singing a rendition of EXO's “Overdose.” He and his other contestants received positive feedback for their performance of INFINITE's “Be Mine” in the third episode but were sent home in the fifth. Wanna One, who spent their first year as a group with five separate entries on the World Albums chart, is just one of the many successful acts that came out of the show.

Park Heeseok and Kim Dohyun, both alums of the original Produce 101, took to Instagram Stories to express their sorrow and provide funeral details for a former castmate.
