Gloria and Tonio are put in a difficult situation where they are arguing over who will tell Gloria and Ines’ father, Javier, that he has cancer. Gloria was worried that Tonio was shifting the blame to her, but he actually had a strategy all along.
He introduces Gloria to his new employee, a little lad named Rusty. Javier will learn that he has cancer from a total stranger named Rusty. Gloria has known Rusty since they were in elementary school together.
At school, he missed a ball, and it ended up hitting Gloria right as she was about to set a new world record for the bent-arm hang test. As Gloria & Ines already owe a lot of money to Tonio, they will be the ones to pay Rusty until he notifies Javier about his disease.
When it comes to Gloria and Ines' predicament, no one is more sympathetic than Rusty. Even though he sends a cake for Javier that reads “Congratulations, you have cancer,” he is able to notice the emotional burden Gloria bears as she rehashes their father's health to Tonio.
Then Javier walks in and says his daughters can spare themselves the emotional toll of breaking the news that he has cancer.
Unmasking Rusty
Tonio still employs Rusty even though he no longer has to. Until his brother Javier is no longer ill, he plans to have Rusty look after his nieces. Gloria has a hunch about Rusty's true identity and motivations. Cam thinks Rusty is only interested in finding work.
On the other hand, Ines spent a lot of time learning about Rusty. He transferred schools as a junior, therefore he's a new student and doesn't have any online profiles yet. Ines believes he is either a psychopath or superior to everyone else.
She has a crush on him, and she can't deny it. Gloria and Rusty even get along better after they realize they share a passion for bullet diaries. Rusty's face is starting to look quite familiar to a lot of people.
Some of them think they've seen him before. At a backyard punk event, Gloria and Demi get into a brawl, which leads to the revelation of Rusty's true identity. Trusty Rusty is the name the crowd has given Rusty.

He is encouraged to perform his song for them. When Gloria & Demi begin to fight, Rusty breaks out into song & the crowd breaks up the brawl by singing along. As a little actor, Rusty starred alongside a man in a minotaur costume on a PBS show titled “Rusty & The Manotaur.”
Why Did Rusty Accept Tonio's Job?
Rusty admitted to Gloria and her friends in the car on the way home from the backyard punk show that he had to take Tonio's job out of desperation. Despite the success of Rusty's show, the network underpaid him.
In order to support his grandma, he requires Tonio's income. Afterward, he reveals to Gloria that his mother stole all of his earnings from the program. When asked what his mother is doing with the money, Rusty has no idea. Currently, he and his grandma are the only two people in the house.
The Secret Behind Rusty’s Job
After realizing what she has done, Ines is devastated. Tonio and Rusty's secret is revealed to her while she is using Tonio's laptop. Turns out Tonio recruited Rusty to flirt with Gloria and Ines so that they would stop thinking about their dying father's disease.
Ines eventually tells Gloria, but Gloria takes it as her sister's second attempt to drive a wedge between them. During the same conversation over Thanksgiving, Rusty reveals that Tonio recruited him to make a pass at Gloria and Ines.

He goes on to say that he has genuine feelings for Gloria and that he stopped stealing from Tonio the moment he fell in love with Gloria. Gloria, now completely distraught, ignores his attempts at comfort and storms out of the room.
What Happens to Rusty?
To discuss Rusty, Mariluna & Gloria have a chat. In spite of everything, she encourages her to see the good that Rusty has done for her. And Gloria acknowledges that she, too, needs to be less judgmental and more open.
In the meantime, Rusty and Ines get into it. Since she is still into him, Rusty holds her responsible for the situation. Ines tries to kiss him away her feelings for him. They kiss passionately again until Gloria comes, and then Gloria leaves.
Rusty and Ines were just kissing, but Gloria doesn't know that. In the end, she decides to forgive them both. They're all in a sticky predicament, and it involves all three of them. The question of when and how Gloria will learn about Ines and Rusty's kiss remains unanswered.
