In 2011, Pam Hupp's friend Betsy Faria was discovered dead the night after Hupp had driven her home after chemotherapy. Faria had been stabbed more than 50 times. Hupp had convinced Betsy Faria, 4 days before her murder, to make her the sole beneficiary of her $150,000 life insurance policy.

She reported seeing Betsy Faria alive, but police discovered blood evidence in the home & arrested her husband, Russel Faria, on murder charges. Hupp also called the police on Faria, claiming that Faria had a violent temper. Betsy Faria even suggested they check on his computer, where they found a message reportedly written by Betsy in which she discussed her fears that her husband might kill her.

Faria was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2013 despite having numerous witnesses who could corroborate his alibi and circumstantial evidence, such as a security film and a movie ticket stub, that pointed in his direction. Two years after the original verdict, Faria was exonerated on appeal.

Those who take satisfaction in seeing wrongs righted would be pleased to hear this. Since August 2019, Hupp has been incarcerated at the Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri, where she is serving a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of release. On the other hand, she did not spend time behind bars for Betsy's murder.

She's in jail for the murder of someone else, a man named Louis Gumpenberger. An innocent guy with mental & physical impairments, Louis, was exploited by her in a phony hitman scheme to shift suspicion away from herself and onto Russ.

Initially, law enforcement officials regarded Pam as a star witness in the Betsy Faria case since they incorrectly assumed Betsy's husband was the perpetrator & did not fully invest in the investigation. Although Russ was found guilty at first. His case was later reversed and he was exonerated, he was imprisoned for many years in the meantime.

Information on the NBC miniseries “The Thing About Pam.

As of early March, NBC will air a true crime miniseries titled The Thing About Pam. Starring alongside Renée Zellweger as Pam is Josh Duhamel as defense attorney Joel Schwartz, Judy Greer as prosecutor Leah Askey, Katy Mixon as Betsy Faria & Glenn Fleshler as the judge. The six-part series will air on ABC.

There are still too many open ends to rule out the possibility of more investigation into Betsy's murder. A fresh revelation has also made the mystery of what happened to Pam's mother a matter of widespread interest.  The police determined it to be an accident that Pam's mother fell off a balcony three stories up.
