When Can We Expect The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5?

The Handmaid’s Tale is an American dystopian television series developed by Bruce Miller, based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name. The streaming provider Hulu ordered the series as a 10-episode straight-to-series order in late 2016, and production began in late 2016. Following the Second American Civil War, the plot depicts a dystopia in which a totalitarian government confines fertile women, known as “Handmaids,” to child-bearing slavery.

What The Handmaid’s Tale Season is All About?

In the aftermath of a civil war, the totalitarian, theonomic government of Gilead establishes power in the former United States, in a world where birth rates have plummeted as a result of sexually transmitted diseases and environmental devastation.  Society is controlled by power-hungry elites, who are aided by a new, militaristic, hierarchical religious fanaticism and newly constructed social classes, in which women are mercilessly repressed. Women in Gilead are required by law to work in very limited roles, including some as birth slaves, and are not permitted to own property, have careers, handle money, or read.

World infertility has resulted in the enslavement of fertile women in Gilead, who have been labelled “fallen women” by the new regime, based on an extreme interpretation of the Biblical account of Bilhah; these women frequently include those who have married multiple times (dissolution is not permitted under Gileadian law), single or unmarried mothers, lesbians (homosexuals are labelled “gender traitors”), non-Christians, Christian denomination.

These women, known as Handmaids, are allocated to the houses of the ruling elite, where they must submit to ritualised rape (dubbed “the ceremony”) in the presence of their wives by their male masters (“Commanders”) in order to be impregnated and carry children for them.  Handmaids are given names that begin with the prefix Of- and end with the last name of the man who owns them. Their names are changed when they are transferred.

Much of society, like the Handmaids, is now divided into classes that govern their freedoms and responsibilities. Women are classified into a few social groups, each of which is represented by a plain clothing in a specific hue. Long red gowns, heavy brown boots, and white coifs are worn by handmaids, with a wider white coif (known as “wings”) worn outside to hide them from public view and limit their eyesight.

Will There be Handmaid’s Tale Season 5?

Season 5 of The Handmaid’s Tale is in the works, and fans can’t wait to see how June Osborne’s tale unfolds now that she’s no longer in Gilead. Fans also know that The Handmaid’s Tale has been nominated for an Emmy at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, which adds to the excitement for the upcoming season. So, according to current estimates, when will The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 premiere? Here’s what’s on everyone’s mind.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 ended with fans finally seeing June Osborne and the other Gilead handmaids and Marthas exacting the vengeance they had longed for on the Waterfords. While it appeared that June’s abuser, Fred Waterford, would get off easy if he gave federal authorities inside knowledge about the Republic of Gilead, June and her other Gilead-affected friends made sure that didn’t happen. They hunted down and killed Fred in the woods late at night.

The Ending of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4

June (Elisabeth Moss) considers the idea of independence after a surprising encounter with a long-lost acquaintance, and confronts the unmet commitments she’s made to herself and Luke (O-T Fagbenle). June (Elisabeth Moss) is torn between reconnecting with loved ones and confronting her nemesis, Serena (Yvonne Strahovski).

June (Elisabeth Moss) faces Fred (Joseph Fiennes) and Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) in court, and Emily (Alexis Bledel) is forced to confront a bitter memory of her Gilead past. Aunt Lydia is given a new Handmaid, but one she recognises.

June and Luke team up to save Hannah, enlisting the support of Lawrence and Nick. Serena and Fred are greeted by Gilead’s unexpected visitors. When a Handmaid-in-Training goes on a hunger strike at the Red Cente, Janine tries to help Aunt Lydia.

June (Elisabeth Moss) is displeased with Fred’s (Joseph Fiennes) plea deal and struggles to accept his impending release. She uses all of her resources and ties to achieve her own version of justice, sacrificing everything in the process.

Wrapping Up

The show’s makers have yet to make any official statements about when the new season will premiere. Season 5 could be released in the summer or fall of 2022, according to Digital Spy. Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 was delayed significantly. Hopefully, the upcoming season won’t have the same filming issues. Season 4 will premiere in April of 2021.
