General Hospital (abbreviated as GH) is a daytime television soap opera in the United States. The earliest stories, which debuted in 1963, were mostly set at General Hospital in an undisclosed midsized Eastern city. Headwriters Eileen and Robert Mason Pollock would not disclose the city's name, Port Charles, until 1976. Steve Hardy (John Beradino) and his friend, Nurse Jessie Brewer, were at the centre of the plots (Emily McLaughlin).
