Plans for a cinematic version of Werewolves Within began in October 2018, with Wolff writing the script and Ubisoft Motion Pictures producing it. Principal filming began in February 2020, after the cast was announced in early 2020.
Werewolves Within made its global debut on June 16, 2021, at the Tribeca Film Festival, and began a limited theatrical distribution in the United States on June 25, 2021, followed by online streaming on July 2, 2021, by IFC Films. The film got generally good reviews from critics, scoring an 84 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, overtaking The Angry Birds Movie 2 as the most lauded film based on a video game.
The film got good reviews,” according to Metacritic, which awarded a weighted average score of 65 out of 100 based on 16 critics. It also got a 6.1 rating out of 10 by IMBD.
Werewolves Within earned $250,811 in its first weekend in 270 cinemas. It earned $115,250 in its second weekend from 209 theatres; this was also the most-rented movie on the iTunes Store's under the independent, horror, and comedy category.
The Plot
Finn Wheeler, a forest ranger, is sent to a tiny village whose inhabitants are split over a pipeline planned by businessman Sam Parker. After a blizzard wipes out all electricity in Beaverfield, the residents seek safety at Jeanine Sherman's lodge.
When a werewolf attacks the lodge's present residents, Finn discovers that Cecily Moore is the werewolf. She subsequently transforms into a werewolf and tries to murder Finn, but he fights her with the assistance of hermit Emerson Flint. Cecily, who is still alive, makes one last attempt to kill Finn and Emerson before being killed by Jeanine with a crossbow.
