Wendell & Wild: An Animated Reunion By Key & Peele Gets a Fresh Look on Netflix
The most recent look at Wendell & Wild has formally arrived, giving the spooky season an early start.
Following their work on the sketch comedy series Key & Peele, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele will again collaborate on the next stop-motion horror-comedy, helmed by famed Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick.
Wendell & Wild’s characters and part of the film’s diverse animation style may be seen in a recently released Empire still.
Two cunning demon brothers, Wendell and Wild (Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele), work with 13-year-old Kat Elliot (Lyric Ross) to summon them to the Land of the Living in the movie Wendell & Wild.
Ving Rhames as Buffalo Belzer and Angela Bassett as Sister Helley; the film also stars James Hong as Father Bests; Tamara Smart as Siobhan; Seema Virdi as Sloane, and Ramona Young as Sweetie, Sam Zelaya as Raul, and Maxine Peake in an untitled role. “Jordan and I entered the room and conducted a session in the recording booths while sitting across from one another and cutting each other off to maintain an authentic vibe.
Typically, after you locate the voices and want to add a little finesse and rhythm, it gets left on the cutting room floor; “Key clarified in 2019 while appearing in the press for The Lion King.
“Henry wrote the first scene, and we spent a lot of time getting to know the characters and the scene’s structure. He then draws motivation from that to continue writing.”
‘Wendell & Wild’ Teases The Demon Brothers’ Typical Brand of Scheming In New Image
Today, Wendell & Wild’s cunning and crafty titular stop-motion demon brothers are giving us another look courtesy of Empire. The image shows the two as they always are: up to no good. They are voiced by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, respectively.
Wendell grins maniacally, tilting his head back and raising his hands in the air as if he were about to escape from his jail in the underworld and run for it. Their expressions tell us that a plan is in the works. What makes us assume that?
Wild appears prepared to follow whatever strategy Wendell’s mind conjures up in the meantime. The other member of the evil pair has a smirk as though he’s game for whatever bizarre concoction Wendell comes up with as long as it gets them out of hell and onto the next party!
Did we mention he’ll be a boombox for the movie’s two antagonists? That’s right, the plot of Wendell & Wild revolves around the two siblings’ attempts to escape their impenetrable prison of a boombox that belongs to a goth adolescent named Kat (Lyric Ross).
However, releasing oneself is only the first stage in their battle against their greatest menace—a nun named Sister Helly who battles demons (Angela Bassett).
The brothers could receive the extra push they need to return to the land of the living with endless parties by making friends with Kat and Raul (Sam Zelaya), her classmate.
