Based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' 1986 DC Comics series of the same name, Watchmen is an HBO superhero drama. The series takes place many years after the events of the comics. Damon Lindelof was the driving force behind it, and the first season debuted on October 20, 2019.
There are nine episodes chronicling the racial violence that unfolded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2019. Set in an alternate timeline where government agencies view masked vigilantes as criminals, the novel follows the exploits of such heroes. The show pays homage to the classic comic novel it's based on while still making bold creative leaps. The future of the critically acclaimed program will look like this:

Will There Be a Watchmen Season 2?
Watchmen may not be renewed for a second season despite widespread critical acclaim and the show's dominance of HBO's fall schedule. Early in 2020, USA Today quoted HBO's head of programming Casey Bloys as saying the network would only be interested in a sequel if Damon Lindelof was on board, and he is not. Lindelof stated to USA Today that he “had no interest in a second season” because the story he wanted to tell was completed in Season 1.
While the show has not yet been formally canceled by the network, Bloys's statement that “it would be hard to fathom doing it without Damon engaged in some capacity” suggests that fans would have to put all their faith in Lindelof if they want HBO to give the show another chance.
It seems as though they are waiting for him to think of anything else before proceeding. Even Bloys mentioned this to The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “To pick up where we left off, Damon is considering his options, and I want to follow his lead. If he's enthusiastic about a concept, so am I; if he prefers a different course of action, so am I.”
Considering that Regina King, Yayha Abdul Mateen II, Damon Lindelof, and Cord Jefferson all won Emmys for their work on Watchmen, HBO will likely still want to be involved with the show. In addition, it was named Best Limited Series. Unfortunately, it looks like you'll have to settle for seeing the ensemble reconnect in a hand-washing public service announcement as the show is still only a limited series.
‘Watchmen' Season 2 Still A Possibility At HBO, Despite Reports https://t.co/FjvBIBD6Ul via @decider

Bloys tweeted a link to a Decider piece claiming the renewal was still possible after the news of the show maybe not coming back sparked quite a commotion. The HBO head of programming hasn't ruled out a second season just yet, so don't either. We're all holding our breath for Lindelof to come around. If Season 2 Returns What Could Be Possible Plotlines?
Season 2 could reveal whether or not Angela inherits Dr. Manhattan's abilities (which could be life-changing for her and the entire series). Season 2 may focus on her development into a superhuman being, or it may explore the ripple effect of Dr. Manhattan's death.
Dan Dreiberg (Patrick Wilson), Laurie's ex and a former Nite Owl, could also make an appearance. The fact that his spacecraft was successfully hauled to the surface and the fact that Laurie clearly still feels strongly for him make this an intriguing line of inquiry.
It could also be a good opportunity to conclude Adrian Veidt's punishment (Jeremy Irons). With Wade's confession to Robert Redford on tape and Veidt in Laurie's custody, the time seems ripe for justice to be served. Other speculations
Even though there have been many hypotheses and pleas for a second season, it has become evident that this will not happen unless the originator is involved.
Because of this, we can expect it to arrive on time and live up to or exceed the original's high standards. Alternatively, this could mean that viewers only saw Season 1 of the show, which is preferable to a last-minute script change that could alter the tale irrevocably.
