Yū Naruse: Possibly the only friend of Tomoko, Naruse plays a critical role in Tomoko’s transformation. Not that Naruse doesn't go through her own transformations, of course. She has a new outlook on life as a result of starting high school.
She enters the institution looking like a nerd from the 1980s but undergoes a major makeover, much to Naruse's chagrin. Tomoko is envious of Naruse because she has a large chest, yet Naruse treats her as if she were her best friend throughout the novel. She's also the main character in a 4-panel manga spinoff.
