Virgin River Season 5: Virgin River is still a huge hit for Netflix and will return for a fifth season in 2023. The fifth season of Virgin River has now officially ended filming, and we've already learned a lot about the upcoming season.
Virgin River, which debuted on Netflix in December 2019, has quietly become one of the streaming service's sleeper hits, with fans all over the world enjoying the love drama starring Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Colin Lawrence, and Jenny Cooper set in the picturesque rural hamlet. Here's all we know about Virgin River season 5 thus far.
When Did Netflix Renew Virgin River for a Fifth Season?
For those who don't know, Virgin River was picked up for another two seasons after its third season. That means we've known for a long time that there would be a fifth season. Two-season orders are not new, but they don't happen very often.

In an interview, Netflix's head of drama said that Virgin River “has some of the most attractive economics for a TV series with a very high return on investment because it costs a lot less to make than special effects-heavy productions.”
Virgin River Season 5: Release Date
Even though we don't have an official date yet, we do know that seasons three and four came out a year apart, in July 2021 and July 2022. This could mean that Netflix plans to add a new season of the show once a year. And if this theory is true, season five could come out as soon as July 2023.

What Will Be the Plot of Season 5 of Virgin River?
Even though Netflix hasn't given us any official information about season 5, we can make some very strong guesses about what will happen. First of all, Mel and Jack are getting married, so maybe there will be wedding bells in season five of Virgin River.
Starting in October 2022, the official Virgin River Instagram account posted a picture of Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) looking glam. We hope to get an invitation because we think this might be a party for an engagement.

One big question we had after season three was who the father of Mel's child was. A test showed that Jack is the father of the baby, but in a big season 4 cliffhanger, Charmaine said that Jack is not the father of her twins. Jack and Mel will have to deal with this change in Season 5, which, strangely enough, could be good for their relationship.
Season 5 of Virgin River Will Have a New Showrunner
Patrick Sean Smith is taking over as showrunner from Sue Tenney, which is the biggest news for season 5. Tenney is leaving to work on new things.
Smith is known for his work on The CW's Supernatural and ABC Family's Chasing Life. Most recently, he wrote the episode “Jolene” for Netflix's limited series “Dolly Parton's Heartstrings” and was the showrunner and executive producer.
