The plot of the story was set in the end-credit scene of Venom 1 when Eddie Brock goes to talk to Cletus Kasady in a jail. The second part starts with Frances Barrison, who was taken away from St. Estes Home for Unwanted Children to the Ravencroft Institute. These incidents took place in 1996.
In the present day, Mulligan contacts Eddie Brock as Cletus Kasady wanted to speak to him. He chose Eddie after watching his interview last year. After the visit, Venom identifies the secret of Cletus and helps Eddie to disclose the hidden dead bodies of victims whom Kasady murdered. Kasady was found guilty and was sentenced to death. To remove his frustration, he requests to meet Eddie once more before dying. When Eddie arrives to meet him the last time, he bites his hand and takes the spawn of Venom unknowingly. When he was injected with lethal injections, a repel force acts and his body transforms into a symbiote.
