If season two of Trigger Point is anything like season one, fans will be in for a real treat (you know, barring the slightly flat finish to the tense episode that was its finale).
Lana Washington (Vicky McClure), the explosives officer, has more lives than the cast of Cats. Despite being pushed to her EXPO boundaries by the terrorist organization The Crusaders, she narrowly avoided being blown up several times in the ITV horror drama.
When the far-right Crusaders assassinated Wash's best friend and coworker Joel ‘Nut' Nutkins (Adrian Lester) and her erratic brother Billy, they took it personally (Ewan Mitchell).
A breadcrumb trail of clues left by their criminal genius let her and her team of EXPO specialists find their way to the truth. The fact is that the Crusaders' brutal campaign was orchestrated by Lana's side project.
Will our favorite EXPO be able to brush off the explosive debris and return for a second season after taking such a slap in the face?
Jed Mercurio, the show's executive producer, definitely hoped so (via Nine).
“For us, this is an area that hasn't been explored enough, especially in light of the current state of the globe, so doing more would be an honor. For us, another series would be a great chance if we're successful and the audience enjoys it sufficiently.”
Also, Trigger Point writer Daniel Brierley has the same vision for a multi-season series (via Memorable TV).
“It's because Lana is such an engaging character who is really coming into her own in the first series. I'm eager to see where she goes as a character since there are so many possibilities. A play on bomb disposal and counterterrorism would also be a fascinating subject. I want the audience to feel tight, exhilarating, and genuine in the environment we've built.”

Trigger Point Season 2: Cast
It's been revealed that Vicky McClure will be returning to the role of Lana Washington. That's certainly not unexpected, considering she's remarked that the concert is one of the big highlights of her career (via BT) (via BT).
“It was a great work and I'm incredibly proud of it. It was a fantastic ensemble of folks and the crew truly did care about one another. As a totally new environment had to be created, it was a challenging shoot.
I have never been on a work quite that enormous, which I imagine would astonish people since you think Line of Duty is the same.
“But I can count on Martin and Adrian a little bit on that series, where they'll have an interview scene without me and that means I’ve had four days free. In Trigger Point, I felt like a crew member for the first time because I'm there every day. I was tremendously committed to the performance and I gave it my everything.”
Sadly Adrian Lester will obviously not be joining her as Nut considering his extremely early demise.
DI Thom Youngblood (Mark Stanley) hasn't been confirmed yet, but we expect him to return as Wash's love interest.
Wash has nice chemistry with bomb data analyst Sonya Reeves (Kerry Godliman) and a strong friendship so we hope more of that will be on its way.
We may see some new members to her team of other EXPOs and uniform officers but John Hudson (Kris Hitchen), Danny (Eric Shango), and inspector Lee Robins (Cal MacAninch) would be likely to make up some of the squad.
Manjinder Virk and Nadine Marshall made an impact as DI Samira Desai and DSU Marianne Hamilton respectively therefore it would be a surprise if they didn't make a comeback.
Bad guy Karl Maguire (Warren Brown) will of course not be invited to the return celebration given that he didn't make it.
Trigger Point Season 2: Plot
Wash will have to deal with even more tangled, stranded cables, and there will almost surely be more explosions.
We may expect a new adversary in the wake of Karl's capture and execution in the last episode of the series.
In the program, Wash's connection with DI Youngblood and John Hudson's disagreement about her promotion is expected to be examined in further detail.
Everything else is up for grabs in terms of the story. If Daniel Brierly, the newest member of our cast, is anything to go by, we can expect a fascinating story at the very least.
His tale may already be in place from what we've heard.
As he put it, “I'm honored and delighted” to be granted the chance to continue Lana's tale. “I have a feeling she's in for a lot more surprises in the near future.
That our show has been so well received has been fantastic, and I can't wait to see what the next installment will bring!”
Trigger Point Season 2 Potential: Release Date
Trigger Point has been renewed for a second season, and fans of McClure will be delighted.
Given the show's recent surge in popularity, this isn't surprising. The first episode was seen by about 11 million people when it aired in the finale.
Polly Hill, ITV's head of drama, was in charge of approving the second season. Her reaction to Trigger Point's reappearance: “I am really happy to see Trigger Point return.
I'd want to thank Jed and HTM for their work on the production, but I also want to thank Daniel for his scripts.” You can't believe it was his first concert when he managed to keep the crowd on the edge of their seats for six hours. “I can't wait to see where Lana and her crew go in season two,” I said.
“Everyone at HTM Television is ecstatic with Trigger Point's success,” Jed Mercurio added. Many thanks go out to all of our talented actors and crew, as well as the spectators who tuned in to watch in such big numbers.
It is an honor to have been given the green light for a second season by ITV, which has provided us with unwavering support throughout the production.
Season two isn't expected till the next year, since the first aired in late January 2022.
