Tori Bowie, a sprinter from Mississippi who won gold at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, was discovered dead in her Florida home on Wednesday, according to authorities. Her age was given as 32.
USA Track & Field and her management business made the sad announcement. They didn't talk about what killed her.
“We've lost a client, dear friend, daughter, and sister,” Icon Management Inc. stated in a statement. The great Tori…a shining example, a beacon of hope. We are devastated by this news, and our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones.
Deputies in Orange County were asked Tuesday afternoon “to conduct a well-being check of a woman in her 30s who had not been seen or heard from in several days,” according to a representative for the sheriff's office.
There “were no signs of foul play,” the FBI stated, after the body of Frentorish “Tori” Bowie was discovered in a Winter Garden residence. According to Orange County's chief medical examiner, Joshua Stephany, the official cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.
It was in the 4×100-meter relay where Bowie led the great quartet of Tianna Bartoletta, Allyson Felix, and English Gardner to a gold medal in Brazil. Bowie claimed her duties that night in Rio were easy thanks to Bartoletta, Felix, and Gardner, despite the fact that she had to run the most crucial 100 meters of the race.
Bowie claimed, “I had the easiest job of all,” when asked about his involvement in the race. All I had to do was bring the stick to the goal line once my teammates handed it to me. Bowie, who was born in Sand Hill, Mississippi, took home bronze medals in both the 100 and 200 meters at the 2016 Olympics.
The 2017 World Athletics Championships were held in London, and Bowie won the 100-meter gold. She had a wonderful upbringing by her grandmother in rural Mississippi, and she always gave her family there the credit for her achievements.
Her claim that “Sand Hill doesn't have any stoplights, not even one,” from a 2016 interview rings true. I've never known anything else; it's all I've ever known. That's why I'll always be a rural girl at heart.
Lolo Jones, a 40-year-old Olympian, expressed her “gutted” sadness at hearing of Bowie's death in an Instagram post.
“To her family, thank you for creating such a beautiful person. I pray you will be surrounded by God’s comfort during this time,” she wrote. The Running World is in shock and grief. Tori, may you rest in peace.
