What is Truth Seeker All About?

Gus Roberts is the chief engineer at Smyle, the largest mobile network operator and Internet service provider in the United Kingdom. He's also a dedicated paranormal investigator in his leisure time. Gus is initially dismayed when his boss David pairs him with new hire Elton John, but the two quickly build a friendship and collaborate on both professional and paranormal projects, though Elton is less interested than Gus in this area.

Astrid, a young woman pursued by multiple ghosts through a house and then a hospital, appears to be unrelated. She rushes through the countryside to get away from the hospital. Elton's agoraphobic sister Helen, a frightened cosplayer, and Gus' unpleasant father-in-law Richard are also presented.

Episode 1

Mrs. Connelly dials Smyle's number to get her Smart TV repaired. When Gus and Elton discover that the HDMI connection has been cut, the TV displays an image from another room in the house when it is replaced. The image is tracked to a hidden laboratory close to her deceased father's upstairs study, a veterinarian who, unbeknownst to Connelly, had a fascination with separating the soul from the body.

Episode 3

A heretic clergyman tries to persuade a publisher to publish his book, the Praecepta Mortuorum, in the seventeenth century. The two are interrupted by a witchfinder and his party, who rip the last page from the Praecepta, kill the publisher, and kidnap the cleric. Un-noticed, a barmaid steals the abandoned Praecepta.

Episode 4

A teenage Peter Toynbee and Dr. Connolly are shown in a flashback performing tests on a rat after implanting a nanobot into its eye. They effectively regulate its behaviour, then capture its soul-halo in a radio set using an incantation extract, murdering the rat in the process.

Episode 5

Toynbee is shown penetrating a research facility and bypassing security by utilising the severed body parts of a scientist to take the missing Praecepta page. Astrid informs Gus and Elton that they received a tip about the Beast of Bodmin Moor from a new subscriber named “Jojo74” in the present day.

Episode 6

The flashback takes place in 1868, in the basement of the Chichester Institute, when Mary Colford was executed for the murder of 12 men. Colford has the Praecepta Mortuorum and uses it to curse Dr. Kettering, who has condemned her; however, she is slain before the curse is completed, and her soul-halo is transferred to a stuffed doll. Gus and Elton are installing wifi at the institute, which is being turned into apartments, in the present day.

Episode 7

In the flashback, a young kid called Lionel is plagued while trying to unload the washing machine in his basement. Gus confronts Elton, who admits to being The Hinckley Boy and that his real identity is Lionel Ritchie, in the present day. He and his family moved around the country regularly to avoid the media circus (which included Emily) that surrounded him.

How Did it End?

Toynbee's scheme is well along by the season one finale. He plans to use the energy that leaves their dying bodies to catapult him, and him alone, to immortality by killing everyone who believes they will ascend with him to Eternis — those nanobots can easily destroy your head at the touch of a button. He put his idea to the test ten years ago, murdering Gus's wife at the same abandoned factory where his followers are now congregating.
When Gus, Astrid, Helen, and Elton figure out what's going on, they take the Smile van to the plant to stop him. Gus receives a call from Jojo74 warning him not to trust anyone, but he chooses to listen to his employer, Dave, who is aware of the situation and has his own strategy.
Dave's super-fast Smile 8G internet, it turns out, will act as insulation against inter-dimensional exchanges, disengage the nanobots, and therefore halt Toynbee's climb. The problem is, the ghost hotel transmitter is jamming the Smile signal, so Elton and Astrid go there to try to unblock it, leaving Gus and Helen to infiltrate Toynbee's gathering and rescue Richard.
The different plot strands of the series come together here. Elton has realised that Astrid is a ghost herself, and he has also come to grips with his own ghostly experience – as a youngster, he encountered the spirit of Astrid's mother, which was a traumatic occurrence for him that also caused his sister Helen's agoraphobia.
