Tetra begs the monarch to put the imprisoned witchers to death, but Lady Zerbst persuades the king to send Vesemir and Tetra to clear the forest of Kitsu instead. Vesemir and Tetra encounter the mutant girl and battle her basilisk. Kitsu, on the other hand, runs further into the jungle after they slay the monster.
Kitsu leads them to an ancient and abandoned elf school, where they discover the remains of several female elves. They free Filvandrel, who then flees with a hybrid young girl, promising that if she ever kills anybody, he'll summon Vesemir's sword.
Vesemir discovers that the monsters he encounters are genetically produced with a form of magic only known to Kaer Morhen's wizards. He sets out towards Kaer Morhen, where he will meet his tutor, master witcher Deglan.
