The Three-body Problem: Storyline
The three books in Liu Cixin's trilogy tell the story of the first time humans met aliens from the planet Trisolaris and how tensions between the two species grew over a long period of time. The Netflix show is likely to start with the first book of the trilogy, Remembrance of Earth's Past.
The story takes place in China during the Cultural Revolution when scientists commit suicide because they are involved with the mysterious society Frontiers of Science. Without giving away too much, one of the main characters, Ye Wenjie, is a scientist who loses faith in the government and people in general.

He then helps the Trisolarians find Earth and get ready to invade. They would need a few hundred years to get to Earth, so people still have time. Years later, Ye is in charge of a secret group of people who want an alien invasion to happen.
The group has split into two groups: those who want Trisolarians to invade and improve humanity by force, and those who want Trisolarians to kill everyone on Earth.
