This September, Netflix customers will be able to enroll in fairytale schools.
Aficionados of Soman Chainani's best-selling YA series, The School for Good and Evil, and fantasy fans rejoicing. The series is finally getting a cinematic adaptation, which has already been dubbed one of the most anticipated films of 2022.
Even though the novels were more basic in their content and were aimed at a much younger readership, the adaptation may go a different path. Netflix took over from Universal Pictures a few years ago to adapt the series into live-action feature films.
The film's release date was pushed back due to the pandemic and the fact that it has been locked in production hell since the first novel was released. However, the long wait will be ended this year.
The Plot of The School for Good and Evil
The first three books of The School for Good and Evil (also known as The School Years) follow best friends Sophie and Agatha as they wind up at the School for Good and Evil. Unlike Hogwarts, which assigns students to different houses based on their personalities and goals, the School for Good and Evil is a little more controversial.
Children are groomed to become fairytale heroes or villains in this enchanting institution. Sophie and Agatha discover more about their true personalities and motivations as they encounter stereotypes of the “pure” and the “wicked” and go on their travels. They also question the stupid and dichotomous ideals of friendship and genuine love defined in their society by fairytale norms.

However, Chainani had previously stated that the story of his book adaptations would be treated differently, saying, “That said, the film will be a very different beast than the book.” Part of the honor of being able to compose it is that it will allow fans to see the world in a whole new light.
Nobody wants a scene-by-scene translation of the novel. Aside from its impracticality, readers' imaginations have already done much better than we could.” The film can be seen in the preview video above, which features the entire Netflix 2022 lineup and their stunning all-star ensemble.
Everything We Know About the Cast
Agatha has been cast as Sofia Wylie (of Andi Mack and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series fame). Sophie will be played by Sophia Anne Caruso, who has previously been in the Broadway show Beetlejuice as Lydia Deetz.
But there's more to it than that—the ‘good versus. An all-star cast will amplify evil's battle. Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Michelle Yeoh, and Laurence Fishburne will portray some of the magical institution's eccentric academics, deans, and headteachers.
After Snow White and the Huntsman, Theron will reprise her role as the Lady Lesso of the School for Evil. Yeoh and Washington will portray Anemone and Dovey, respectively, at the School for Good.
Along with Patti LuPone, the film will include Rachel Bloom (from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Peter Serafinowicz (from South Park, Shaun of the Dead), and Mark Heap (from Spaced, Lark Rise to Candleford). Is Ben Kingsley also expected to star in the film?
The film's casting director is Fiona Weir. Actors like Kit Young and Jamie Flatters will play the other pupils in the school. Other students include Demi Isaac Oviawe, Kaitlyn Akinpelumi, and Briony Scarlett.
The Golden Compass, Fantastic Beasts, and Where to Find Them are just a few of the films she has worked on with director David Yates.
Release Date of The School for Good and Evil
The School for Good and Evil is primarily being shot in Northern Ireland and is expected to generate roughly £30 million in investment for the country. Despite being scheduled for a Christmas 2017 release, the film will now be available on Netflix in the second half of 2022. Will it be able to fill the gap left by the Potterverse in our hearts? Time will only tell.
Literary Series “Good and Evil”…
On Tuesday, June 2, 2020, the final book, One True King, was released. Surprisingly, Netflix acquired the rights to the adaptation from Universal Pictures in 2020. Despite COVID-19 regulations, much of the filming occurred at Northern Ireland's Belfast Harbour Studios.
According to Caruso and Wylie, The School for Good and Evil cast includes Jamie Flatters, Kit Young, Earl Cave, Freya Parks, Demi Isaac Oviawe, Kaitlyn Akinpelumi, Mark Heap, Briony Scarlett, Emma Lau, and Rosie Graham.
Michelle Yeoh, Charlize Theron, Ben Kingsley, Laurence Fishburne, Patti LuPone, Chinenye Ezeudu, Rob Delaney, and Rachel Bloom all play supporting characters in the adaption. The School for Good and Evil, now in post-production on IMDb, is set to be released in 2022.
