In the first film, a team of researchers discovers the existence of the namesake prehistoric megalodon. Steve Alten's novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror was the inspiration for the movie The Meg. As a result of the film's popularity, it earned over $530 million around the world. If the box office returns are any indication, Warner Bros. Pictures will be keen to crank out a sequel, potentially launching a new sci-fi/horror series.

The Meg 2 Release Date: When Will It Air?
On August 4, 2023, the second installment of The Meg will be made available in the United States. The film's release date had been vague up until recently but is now firm since post-production has begun.
The sequel began shooting in London in January 2022, so the camera is already rolling. The footage is likely already in post-production, as the project's status on IMDb has been updated to reflect this.
The first Meg movie came out in August of 2018, so it stands to reason that the sequel would get a summer release as well. The Meg 2 is expected to be released in 2023, and this is the best estimate we have so far.

The Meg 2 Plot: What Will Happen?
Rematch: man vs. shark. This time, Jonas and his crew find evidence that the Megalodon, which has spent millions of years breeding in the Trench, is learning how to navigate the cooler waters above the trench and make its way to the coast of California.
Jonas, in his quest to halt destruction along the west coast, must return to the ocean's depths and fight once more with the planet's largest predator.

Wu Jing, who just so happens to be the star with the highest-grossing career in the history of Chinese cinema, has stepped in to fill the void left by Li Bingbing.

Jason Statham is also back on board as his character, Jonas Taylor, and is likely to be found in the water lots. There is, however, no information regarding whether or not Pippin will make a comeback (not to be confused with Pipit from Jaws).

In addition, it has been established that Cliff Curtis will reprise his role as James “Mac” Mackreides, Page Kennedy will reprise her role as DJ, and Shuya Sophia Cai will reprise her role as Meiying, the daughter of Suyin. There is currently no information on Ruby Rose's participation in the next sequel.

There are currently six novels in The Meg series, providing Warner Bros. Pictures with a plethora of material from which to draw if they decide to develop the subject into a film franchise.
A mainstream, less campy Sharknado, this franchise has the ability to blend aspects of Jaws and Jurassic Park to create a new modern sci-fi monster thriller. Remakes and sequels are a sure sign of commercial success.
When a debut film earns $500 million worldwide, it has all the makings of a successful franchise. Warner Bros. Pictures need only adapt the content already in existence, leaving the rest to the moviegoers.
