We are in a dire predicament because of The Last of Us. Without Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), our week wouldn't be complete. As they make their way across the United States in the wake of a fungal illness that has devastated humanity, we have been riveted to our TVs like Tess is to her Clicker.

After that finale, we may wonder what will become of Joel and Ellie, but happily, we don't have to worry about the show's future. Two episodes in, HBO decided to renew the suspenseful survival drama for a full season.

When can we expect to see the next episode of The Last of Us, and what will become of Ellie and Joel and the rest of the unlucky humans who have been infected and transformed into hideous fungus creatures?

Come out from behind the sofa to read everything you need to know about The Last of Us season 2 Release date…

The Last of Us Season 2 Release Date: When Will It Air?

The first season of The Last of Us has concluded, with the conclusion broadcasting on March 12, 2023, in the US and March 13, 2023, in the UK. Despite the confirmation of a second season, it will be quite some time before we actually get to watch any of the episodes from that season.

According to executive producer Craig Mazin, the first season was shot for about 200 days in Canada & then a few more months were spent editing and adding those incredibly creepy fungal special effects.

Between the day the first scene was shot & the premiere of the first season on January 15, 2023, a total of 18 months passed. If we follow a similar schedule for season two, we wouldn't expect to see episodes until at least the end of 2024. “It'll be a while,” Ramsey stated. I believe we'll shoot toward the end of this year or the beginning of next… So it'll most likely be the end of 2024 or early 2025.

The Last of Us Season 2 Release Date

Let's take a look at The Last of Us season 2 cast! Herein lies the rub, as much hinges on how much of the first game's plot is handled in the first season of the programme.

While speaking with Consequence, Mazin confirmed: “Whatever happens in the first game constitutes the first season. You can tell we're also covering the events of the Left Behind DLC by viewing the marketing materials if you've played the game.”

We have seen this pattern play out in real life, with Ellie and Riley's budding romance taking place at a deserted shopping mall. Their terrible story was intertwined with Ellie's quest to locate medical supplies for an injured Joel during the first season.

In The Last of Us: Left Behind, a downloadable add-on to the original game, these two occurrences occurred in different ways. Season 1 has covered both the main game and the expansion, thus Season 2 will likely jump right into the action of The Last of Us Part II.

While both Joel and Ellie are playable characters in The Last of Us Part II, fans may anticipate the return of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in their respective roles. Due to the 5-year gap between games, Pascal will have a few extra white hairs.

Also, Bella Ramsey's character would more accurately reflect her actual age than she does in the first season. Tommy, Joel's brother, is a major character as well; he was portrayed by Gabriel Luna in the first season, so we can expect to see him again. Moreover, Ellie's girlfriend Dina & a new protagonist named Abby Anderson are presented.

Is There a Trailer for The Last of Us Season 2? It will be some time until new footage is ready for a trailer, as work on The Last of Us Season 2 has not yet begun (as of March 2023). Naturally, a trailer will be posted here as soon as one becomes available, so keep checking back.
