The Last of Us Episode 1: Recap
The episode began in 1968, with Dr. Newman discussing a global plague that could take over the world. Let's go back to 2003 when we meet Sarah and Joel. While she is preparing breakfast for Joel, we learn that it is his birthday. After some back and forth, Sarah requests that her father bring her a cake on his way home from work.
Sarah goes into one of her father's drawers and pulls out a watch and some cash before leaving the house. Sarah goes to the jewelry store after school to have her watch repaired. However, while she is there, a lady comes out and for some reason closes the shop.
Later that night, Joel forgot to get the cake, which upset Sarah, but she still gave him his present, which made him very happy. Ellie, who is being held captive, is introduced for the first time. Joel is working every shift he can to put the pieces of the puzzle together in order to get a truck and head to the tower where his brother is.

Joel and Ellie finally have a chance to leave the city. As Joel and Ellie try to get to the tower, they face some new problems. Ellie starts to remind Joel of his young daughter.
