All About “The Last Letter From Your Lover”

Based on the novel by Jojo Moyes, there are two separate love tales here (“Me Before You”). Ellie (Felicity Jones), a writer who is uninterested in romance, is assigned to write about a recently deceased editor in the present day.

To get access to the editor's archive, she must first get past a cold and formal archivist named Rory (Nabhaan Rizwan), where she discovers a swooningly passionate love letter addressed to someone only known as “J” from someone only identified as “Boot.”

In a flashback to the mid-1960s, we gradually uncover the narrative of J (Shailene Woodley as Jennifer Stirling). She's recuperating from a vehicle accident that left her with amnesia. So when she calls him Lawrence, her gorgeous, affluent husband (Joe Alwyn) gently reminds her, “You call me Larry.” Her best friend tells her that everything is great and that she is living her “ideal life.” But she has a nagging feeling that something is missing. She says, “I don't know how I felt about my life.”

We can understand Jennifer is confused for reasons other than amnesia. Her spouse treats her like a lovely ornament that he visits in between business travels and wants her to entertain the women at dinner parties while the guys discuss business and global events.

While the Stirlings are visiting a luxury beach resort in France, a dashing foreign reporter called Anthony O'Hare (Callum Turner) arrives to interview Anthony. While waiting for Stirling to return from another unplanned business trip, O'Hare and Jennifer are stranded in the resort town together.
