The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France is the novelization of the last officially recognized judicial duel fought in medieval France.

The fate of the rape victim hung in uncertainty upon his Husband, managing to be alive at the end of the duel as the medieval literature recounts the time of hundreds of years of war between England and France and also the time when the plague was haunting the state. French knight Jean de Carrouges married a beautiful woman Marguerite de Thibouville, not sure for love but to win commodity as she was the daughter of controversial known traitor Robert de Thibouville who for territorial disputes have in the past sided with many french kings. Le Gris was at the top of the feudal lords of the feudal system, which once was the right of Carrouges.
Carrouges lost the lawsuit, but eventually, the two subsided their feud and became friends at last. But it didn't last for long, with Le Gris intentions not any good in the near future. Le Gris, along with Louvel on 18th January 1386 end up committing the heinous crime of rape to Marguerite.
The time when raising voice was not much of choice to women. Marguerite not only raised her voice but accepted the fate of injustice if she failed to prove her claims to be false. With the Court hearing being biased, she was sentenced to be burned alive if her husband lost a duel.
The mournful plight of women that will keep you hooked on your seat filled with thrill and suspense about whether justice will be delivered or not, though in an unjust way.
