What is The L Word About?

Do you know The phrase “the L-word” has been used as an alias for lesbians since at least Jane Chambers' 1981 play My Blue Heaven, in which a character stammers out, “You're really…? The L-word? Lord God, I never met one before.” The original code-name for The L Word was Earthlings, a rarely used slang term for lesbians.

The L Word has been credited with changing the portrayal of queer women on television as the first American television series to include an ensemble cast of lesbian and bisexual female characters. The series' explicit sex scenes were one of its defining features at a period when lesbian sex was “almost unseen elsewhere on television.”

Let's Come to The L Word: Generation Q Season 2

On July 11, 2017, Showtime revealed that a sequel to The L Word is in the process. On November 20, 2017, Marja-Lewis Ryan was announced as showrunner and executive producer.

Ilene Chaiken, the creator and showrunner of the original L Word series, would serve as executive producer, with Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig, and Leisha Hailey. There will be eight episodes of The L Word: Generation Q. It aired for the first time on December 8, 2019.

Bette (Jennifer Beals) is returning to the art world after an acrimonious conclusion to her mayoral campaign and the scandal that derailed it at the end of Season 1. Unfortunately, Bette can't manage to escape the burden of her past infidelities, notably the one that ended things with her ex-wife, Tina (Laurel Holloman), all those years ago, despite a fresh start and some new romantic interests.

If the first season taught viewers anything, it's that Bette isn't going to be single, or at least celibate, for long. She no longer resembles the woman Alice once accused of being a “sex addict” after decades of divorce and parenthood, but it's difficult to see her ever settling for just one woman.
