The Gray Man Got Mixed Early Reactions!
The Gray Man, a new assassin movie from Netflix starring Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling, has received mixed reviews online.
The Gray Man follows a top CIA agent on a global pursuit after learning dark agency secrets in the movie, which is based on the Mark Greaney book series of the same name.
The film, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame fame), stars Evans as its antagonist, a part they previously stated had been planned since the creation of 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Based on the novel series of the same name, The Gray Man follows Court Gentry, a former CIA operative turned freelance assassin, as he travels around Europe in search of his family while pursued by Evans' Lloyd Hansen.
James Gray and Christopher McQuarrie were attached to helm the Gray Man book series movie adaptations in 2011 and 2016, respectively.
In July 2020, Netflix revealed plans to adapt The Gray Man with the Russos in charge of the direction after these versions fell through. On July 15, the movie will be available on Netflix.
Germain Lussier, an entertainment reporter, and Matt Neglia, the owner of Next Best Picture, both commented that action films about “agents on the run,” such as John Wick and Mission Impossible, are redundant early indications of a formulaic plot with minimal payoff.
David Ehrlich, a movie critic, called the action scenes boring, while Kyle Buchanan even likened the film to an artificial intelligence simulation. Read a few responses below.
The Gray Man is two hours of James Bond meets Fast and Furious. Super exciting action, massive scale & set pieces, solid, self aware performances, consistent laughs, just a whole lot of fun. Gosling and Evans rule, supporting cast great, it’s a little obvious but never boring. pic.twitter.com/hSoTwgCMfA
