The Boys Season 3 Review: Is Butcher Still Hurting Over the Death of Becca?

The Boys Season 3 Review: The Boys will return this summer with eight new episodes of snarky superhero satire; shockingly violent violence; and curiously romantic romances; much to the joy of its fans.

And; based on the just-released teaser; it also means a fresh threat from Homelander (Antony Starr) and a very startling decision by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban).

Is Butcher's Wife Alive?

There will almost certainly be some heads that explode.

However, with its premiere date, it will have been a year and a half after Season 2's epic finale;

The Boys Season 3 Review

We thought it'd be fun to compile all we know about the new season as a primer on what to anticipate; as well as remember those who perished in a tragic mass head explosion.

Let's start with those who survived the ordeal. Butcher, Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso); Frenchie (Tomer Kapon); and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) are all in good physical shape; despite their mental state.

Granted, that was always the case, but with Butcher still hurting over the death of his wife Becca (Shantel VanSanten); we expect his hatred towards Homelander and Vought to grow even more.

His desperation, according to the teaser posted on March 12 (below), will lead him down the worst path possible: obtaining a power booster to exact his revenge.

What Does the Teaser Imply?

However, the longer May trailer indicates that the increase is only for 24 hours and that Butcher has been following the rules for the past year.

“No killing supes, no drinking,” Mallory (Laila Robins) tells Butcher at one point.

Hugh Campbell's demands were even carried out without him being strangled.”

However, her description of his pleasant demeanor is paired with footage of him assaulting someone, so her information could be suspect.

Meanwhile, the group has dispersed, with Frenchie and Kimiko pursuing their romance, Hughie attempting to discover a less violent means to combat the Supes, Mother's Milk returning to his family, and Butcher forming a government-approved superhero surveillance team.

The teaser implies that they will reconvene soon, with Hughie being drenched in fluids and suffering once more, Kimiko inflicting misery, and Mother's Milk resenting his predicament.

What will bring them together again? Maybe it has something to do with Hughie saying in the May trailer that “the right way” to deal with Vought is rigged, and Butcher's approach is the only way to deal with him.

The preview also mentions a few things that are going on with the Boys, such as Frenchie and Kimiko's musical number and Mother's Milk appearing to be displaced within his family's structure.

Stormfront (Aya Cash) is still alive and well after the season 2 finale battle on the Seven's side.

The Boys Season 3 Trailer Shows Guts

Season 3 of Prime Video's The Boys has a new teaser, and there's a lot to look forward to.

Antony Starr's Homelander, Jack Quaid's Hughie, Karl Urban's Billy (now with superpowers???), and others are back.

Homelander's press tour following the events of season 2 is shown in the trailer (he's simply a man who fell for the wrong woman, you see, and crisis brings transformation).

Billy gains (temporary) superpowers, as well as even more of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy.

Not to mention a lot of blood and guts to keep you going till the next season starts.

In March, the first trailer for the new season was released, giving us our first look at Ackles' character, who appears to be a Captain America spoof.

This season, Ackles reunites with Eric Kripke, the showrunner of The Boys, who also created Supernatural.

There was a teaser in July 2021 that mocked Fox News before the first trailer.
