The Angel of Darkness, the second season of The Alienist, reunites Laszlo Kreizler, Sara Howard, and John Moore on a quest to recover the Spanish Ambassador-abducted General's newborn daughter.
However, this isn't the first time a child has gone missing in New York, and what they discover along the road is terrifying.
Season three hasn't been given the go-light yet, so what can we expect if further episodes are approved?

Alienist Season 3 Release Date Confirmed
The dramatic conclusion of The Alienist: Angel of Darkness' eight-episode run on TNT, which aired on August 9, 2020, has been circulating for quite some time.
Sadly, there hasn't been any information on whether The Alienist season 3 has been approved or whether the network has canceled it. Usually, networks are eager to maintain the momentum if a series is well-liked enough to call for another episode.
The past year has been extremely difficult for the film and television industries. Hence, it's probable that TNT is delaying the announcement of The Alienist season 3 until things are a bit more normal.
So, while it may be disappointing that it hasn't been approved, find solace in the knowledge that it hasn't been rejected either!
The Alienist season 3 would still aim for a 2022 release date even if filming got underway soon.
When Will the Alienist Season 3 Debut in the United Kingdom?
Season two of The Alienist premiered on TNT in the United States in July, followed by Netflix in the United Kingdom on October 22.
Why has it taken so long? Due to licensing restrictions, the series must complete its run on its original broadcaster before being made available to people in other parts of the world. We'll have a clearer sense of when a potential third series will be released in the UK once we know the US release date.
You know what caused several delays and cancellations, and while the best-case scenario is mid-to-late 2021, your estimate is as good as ours.
Who's in the Cast of the Alienist Season 3?
At the end of season two, the key three — Laszlo, Sara, and John – are alive and well, implying Daniel Brühl, Dakota Fanning, and Luke Evans might appear in future episodes.
How Many Episodes Will There Be in Season 3 of The Alienist?
There were 10 episodes in the first chapter but only two in the second. Expect something in that area if the program returns for a third season.

What Will Happen in Season 3 of The Alienist?
This is where things become a little more complicated. Caleb Carr's Kreizler series, which consists of three volumes, is the inspiration for the series.
However, although the first two books, The Alienist and The Angel of Darkness, are set in 1896 and 1897, the third, Surrender, New York, was established in 2016.
The protagonist is Dr. Trajan Jones, a criminal psychologist and the world's foremost expert on Laszlo Kreizler. Because the present characters have gone their ways, showrunner Stuart Carolan might choose to leave them in the past.
Instead, Jones and his justice partner, trace-evidence specialist Mike Li, might take center stage.

Caleb Carr is writing two additional books in the series, so there are choices for season three. Carr stated these new books would be both a sequel and a prequel in an interview with James Altucher.
They'll also necessitate a considerable shift in viewpoint. The author stated, “They'll both be told by Kreizler.”
“I needed to find a method to speak in the voice of the man behind the curtain in these things,” she says. As if you were Sherlock Holmes. Conan Doyle only authored one Sherlock Holmes story, a colossal disaster.

“However, Kreizler is a very different character. I wanted to find a method to talk about these topics — all of the things we've been talking about, these psychological and personal issues – in a way that was comfortable for others.
As a result, it didn't sound like a case study or a scientific investigation. As a result, you gained insight into the character, which is understandable given how enthralled people are by Kreizler. They're curious as to what's up with this person.”
We're curious whether someone has informed Dakota Fanning, who was ecstatic with season two's female focus.
“This time around, we have more female energy,” Fanning told Deadline. Fanning: “We saw her as the first female NYPD officer in The Alienist, and she wanted more.”

“This new season shows it. She's formed her own firm and struggles to be taken seriously as a female investigator in 1897.
The choices that women were and still are forced to make, and the pressures of having a career, family, and all that entails. We see her struggle with it throughout the season.”
Time will tell if there'll be enough room in a Kreizler-centric plot to complete that quest.
