The 25th Marvel Movie Shang Chi

Today we are here to discuss a movie, not an ordinary movie but one of the movies in your favourite collection, the marvel “Shang-Chi”. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, based on Marvel Comics, is a 2021 American superhero film featuring Shang-Chi. It is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's 25th film, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (MCU).

Shang-Chi was first adapted into a film in 2001, but Callaham was recruited in December 2018 and production on it began in earnest. Cretton joined the project in March 2019, and it was quickly accelerated as Marvel's first feature featuring an Asian protagonist. The title and main actors of the film were revealed in July, exposing the film's ties to the Ten Rings organisation, which had previously appeared in the MCU, and its leader, Wenwu, played by Leung.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the first Marvel Studios film to be directed by an Asian and to have a predominantly Asian cast. Filming began in February 2020, but was halted in March owing to the COVID-19 outbreak. Production began again in August and ended in October, with extra shooting taking place in Sydney and San Francisco.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premiered in Los Angeles on August 16, 2021, and was released in the United States on September 3, 2021, as part of the MCU's Phase Four. The picture shattered a slew of box office records, grossing nearly $146 million worldwide. Critics praised the choreography of the action sequences, the investigation and portrayal of Asian culture, and the performances of Liu, Leung, and Zhang, who got mostly good reviews.

Wenwu gathers the Ten Rings army, which conquers numerous kingdoms and topples governments throughout history. In 1996, Wenwu sets out to find Ta Lo, a town reputed to be home to mythological animals, in order to increase his strength.

Wenwu resurrects the rings to slaughter the Iron Gang, reclaims control of his organisation, and subjects Shang-Chi to rigorous martial arts training. Wenwu assigns Shang-Chi the task of assassinating the Iron Gang's leader when he is 14 years old. Shang-Chi, devastated by his assignment, flees to San Francisco and takes the alias “Shaun.”

Shang-Chi works as a valet alongside his best friend, Katy, in the current day. Men from the Ten Rings assault them on a Muni bus, including Razor Fist, who takes a necklace that Li had given to Shang-Chi. Shang-Chi receives the location of Xialing from Wenwu, who does it anonymously. Shang-Chi decides to meet Xialing because he is afraid the Ten Rings would go after her pendant.

What's the Production story?

In the 1980s, Stan Lee met with actor Brandon Lee and his mother Linda Lee to explore a possible film or television series based on the Marvel Comics character Shang-Chi, according to Margaret Loesch, former president and CEO of Marvel Productions, with the intention of having Brandon Lee star as the character.

Brandon's father, martial arts superstar Bruce Lee, served as a visual influence for artist Paul Gulacy during his time on the Master of Kung Fu comic book series in the 1970s while he was painting Shang-Chi. Stephen Norrington acquired an agreement to direct The Hands of Shang-Chi, a Shang-Chi film, in 2001. The film was in development at DreamWorks Pictures by 2003, with Yuen Woo-Ping taking over as director and Bruce C. McKenna writing the screenplay.

Under the working title Steamboat, principal photography began in February 2020 at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney and on location around New South Wales. The movie's cinematographer was William Pope. Cretton picked Pope as the cinematographer because he thought the cinematographer's approach could be both naturalistic and heightened, as well as because of Pope's work on The Matrix (1999), which he thought had the perfect tone for an MCU film starring Asian and Asian-American characters.

In the martial arts and kung-fu genres, Cretton was influenced by Jackie Chan's filmography, the Ip Man series, Tai Chi Master, and Kung Fu Hustle, among others.

Release Date

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was originally set to debut on February 12, 2021, the first day of the Chinese New Year, before being pushed back to May 7, and subsequently to July 9, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. After Black Widow's release date was pushed back to July 9, 2021, the picture was rescheduled for September 2021.
