The actress, 51, opened up to PEOPLE on Saturday on the change a few years can make while visiting New Orleans to attend Essence Fest for the first time since the plague.

When we last visited in 2019, the performance had just begun, recalls Hall. “Now that we're back, I won my second Emmy last week. We're enjoying a terrific natural high right now.

The realization that she had won once more was surreal for Hall. We were back in person, and I was sitting in the crowd. We were all at home when I won my first Emmy, and I was using Zoom,” she recalled.

But to accept that distinction while sitting in the same room as my team and all of my colleagues was… I still can't believe it. Oh, they mentioned my name, oh my gosh! I gasped as I turned to gaze at my executive producer Quiana Burns after hearing what I thought was my name.

Gaining the opportunity to deliver the award to her smallest admirer was another memorable experience for Hall.

According to Hall and her husband Steve Greener's 3-year-old son Moses, the cutest moment was when he opened the box. He opened the box as I quickly returned home that evening after taking a redeye. When I saw him touch the Emmy, I questioned, “What is that?” And he added, “Emmy.” It was pretty unique.
