The Suicide Squad is a DC Comics-based superhero film set in 2021 that stars the Suicide Squad. It is the eleventh film in the DC Extended Universe and a standalone sequel to Suicide Squad (2016), produced by DC Films, Atlas Entertainment, and The Safran Company and released by Warner Bros. Pictures (DCEU).

Amanda Waller, an intelligence officer, forms two Task Force X teams—affectionately known as the Suicide Squad—made up of Belle Reve prison prisoners who volunteer to carry out missions for Waller in return for reduced sentences.
They are sent to demolish the Nazi-era facility Jötunheim, which houses a classified experiment known as “Project Starfish,” after its government is overthrown by an anti-American dictatorship on the South American island country of Corto Maltese.
Colonel Rick Flag, a subordinate of Waller's, leads one of the teams, which is nearly wiped out by the Corto Maltese troops upon arrival. As a result of the confusion, the second squad is able to enter the nation unnoticed.
Polka-Dot Man, Peacemaker, King Shark, and Ratcatcher 2 make up the second squad, which is commanded by assassin Bloodsport, who accepts the assignment to save his daughter from being imprisoned at Belle Reve. They discover Flag in a rebel base camp and persuade rebellion commander Sol Soria to help them.
Harley Quinn survives the initial team's attack and is kidnapped by the authorities of Corto Maltese. Harley manages to flee and joins the others in breaking into Jötunheim with the help of the Thinker. As Flag and Ratcatcher 2 enter the subterranean laboratory with the Thinker, the majority of the team prepares the facility with explosives. Starro the Conqueror, a huge extraterrestrial starfish that generates tiny replicas of itself to murder humans and take control of their bodies, is revealed to be Project Starfish.

A mercenary wearing a technologically advanced suit allows him to manufacture various devices and alter weaponry (based on the comic book character's ability to materialise weapons). Bloodsport joins Task Force X to save his daughter Tyla after being convicted of shooting Superman with a Kryptonite bullet. As a result, his prison term is reduced.
John Cena as Christopher Smith / Peacemaker
A vicious, jingoistic assassin who thinks that peace must be attained at any cost. Cena approached the part with an “angular, drill sergeant, Full Metal Jacket-Esque demeanour” before filming; Gunn urged him to act like a “douchey, bro-y Captain America.”
Joel Kinnaman as Colonel Rick Flag
The Suicide Squad's field commander. In comparison to his portrayal in the original Suicide Squad, Kinnaman stated the film was an opportunity to give the character a clean slate and that Flag was sillier, less cynical, more naïve, and funnier (2016).
Sylvester Stallone as the voice of Nanaue / King Shark
A combination of a man-eating fish and a human. King Shark's representation was established on set as a stand-in, and the character was subsequently built with visual effects.
Production Story of Suicide Squad
Before the original film's release in August 2016, a sequel to Suicide Squad (2016) was planned in March 2016, with director David Ayer and after finishing their work on Bright, actor Will Smith is expected to return for a 2017 filming start (2017).
The following month, Ayer said that the first picture was classified PG-13 because the studio had initially intended for it to be that way and that an R-rating had to be planned from the beginning of the project. He believes it would be worthwhile to “push” for an R-rated sequel because the original picture already had the “edge” and “attitude” of an R-rated film.
Suicide Squad was met with mixed reviews and was said to have had a rough production, although it made enough money for Warner Bros. Pictures to move on with the development of a sequel.
Several spin-off films were apparently in the works in December, including one starring Smith as Deadshot. Gotham City Sirens, starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, was the project that had progressed the most. Ayer was slated to direct and produce the film at the time.
