Strange World Trailer Review: Disney to Include Gay Teen Romance

The upcoming adventure film “Strange World,” produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and scheduled to be released on November 23rd, has added Dennis Quaid, Lucy Liu, Gabrielle Union, and Jaboukie Young-White to the core voice cast.

“Strange World” is expected to be in theatres on November 23rd. They follow in the footsteps of Jake Gyllenhaal, who was introduced the previous week.

Don Hall, who directed “Big Hero 6,” is riding high on the success of “Raya and the Last Dragon,” and Qui Nguyen, who co-wrote “Raya,” is writing and co-directing “Strange World.”

The film follows three generations of the Clade family, legendary explorers, as they arrive at a dazzling land full of mysterious phenomena, such as shoals of flying fish, walking rock columns, and octopus-looking monsters, according to a recent trailer.

Granddad Jaeger Clade, who Quaid will voice, will narrate “Strange World,” which will be presented in a vintage visual manner reminiscent of sci-fi B movies from the 1950s. Young-White lends his voice to the character of Ethan, White's grandson.

Meridian, a character whose voice is provided by Union, is married to Searcher, a character whose likeness is provided by Gyllenhaal. The film takes place in the enchanted land of Avalonia, and Liu plays the role of Callisto Mal, the ruler of that land.

This throwback story was inspired by the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs and Jules Verne. It will feature faithful companions and bizarre new creations. Some characters will not speak, such as the family's three-legged dog, Legend, and the gelatinous blue blob Splat, a strange critter from a strange new world.

In Annecy, producer Roy Conli is quoted saying, “He simply might end up becoming your favorite character.” The entire voice cast was revealed during a Walt Disney Animation Studios showcase at the Annecy Animation Festival in France.

The event began with the presentation of an honorary Annecy Cristal to Jennifer Lee, the chief creature officer at WDAS. Lee is best known for her work as the writer and director of “Frozen,” which was nominated for an Academy Award and won the award, as well as “Frozen II.”

Lee also produced “Encanto” and “Raya and the Last Dragon,” and he executive produced “Baymax” and “Zootopia +,” two upcoming projects from Disney Plus.

Lee spoke to animation as “part of my memories, my escape, my companion, and my hope,” and he described animation as “imagination in its most sophisticated and elaborate form.” He also hailed animation as a form that heralded “the genuine power of teamwork!”

Walt Disney played three different segments from “Strange World.” In the first scenario, Ethan is shown flirting with the school's most popular boy, Diazo, while his buddies laugh and tease him in a light-hearted and pleasant manner.

Ethan's father, the Searcher, quickly joins in, much to his displeasure, and embarrasses his son with an overzealous show of approval.

The second segment to be shown off in Annecy was an exciting action scene. While flying in a cavern in a lime green aircraft as a family, they are quickly ambushed by flying Fuschia creatures that resemble origami stingrays and look like they are coming from all directions.

After the attack, the family is split up because Searcher and his dog are ejected from the plane and land in a strange new world, while Ethan and his mother can safely navigate the ship.

During the third phase, Searcher and the dog investigate their new surroundings, consisting of glowing terrain resembling a brilliant pink coral reef. Following their encounter with Splat, they are forced to fight off a beast that resembles Cthulhu before being saved by an elderly hunter with a beard.

When the seasoned traveler of this treacherous landscape finally removes his hood, it is a surprise to see what he looks like. Searcher yells out in shock, “Dad?! ” In addition, Walt Disney canceled unannounced episodes of “Zootopia Plus” and “Baymax.”

Baymax, the robot from “Big Hero 6,” makes an offer to run a cafe after its owner, Cassie, hurts her ankle in the short film “Baymax,” which has the atmosphere of a sitcom and garnered tonnes of laughter from the audience in Annecy.

Each episode follows a different character and employs a distinct animation style. A reality show format is used in one episode, while a dancing talent competition is included in another episode, and so on.

An origin narrative for the “Zootopia” bit character Mr. Big was presented in the “The Godfather of the Bride” episode, which was screened at Annecy. This episode was created in the spirit of Coppola's family tale.
