He finished high school in 1974 & from 1974-1978, he went to college at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. Sinbad played basketball for 2 years while he was in college. After college, Sinbad joined the US Air Force & worked on KC-135 Stratotankers as a boom operator. He was part of the 384th Air Refueling Wing at Wichita, Kansas's McConnell Air Force Base.

During that time, he often went to downtown Wichita to do stand-up comedy. In 1981, he was a comedian & took part in the Air Force's Talent Contest. He often did bad things & went missing in action.
