Heirloom drama Shetland came to a dramatic conclusion on Wednesday night, with two major characters being arrested on suspicion of murdering one other. Jimmy Perez (Douglas Henshall) and Duncan Hunter (Mark Bonnar) were both falsely accused of the murder of season four villain Donna Killick (Fiona Bell), who committed suicide before implicating both men in her death.
In the course of the season, Duncan, the biological father of Jimmy's loving step-daughter Cassie, had gradually become acquainted with Jimmy, and the two men had formed an odd friendship. Because of their shared connection, Duncan eventually admitted to helping Donna commit suicide at her request – but Donna had previously sent a letter to her lawyer prior to her death, in which she implied that the two men intended to kill her.
After Duncan surrendered himself to the authorities in order to protect Jimmy, the police detained Jimmy as well. Having been left hanging on such a massive scale, audiences are already clamouring for answers, with one major concern remaining: will Shetland be renewed for a seventh season.

Plot Summary for Shetland Season 7
As a result, you're probably wondering what to expect from Season 7. When Shetland first premiered, it was basically a standard thriller drama with a bunch of detectives as the central characters. But with time, the writers have been able to make the storey more compelling and intricate. The arrest of Jimmy Pérez at the end of the previous season was undoubtedly something that the viewers did not anticipate. It would be fascinating to see where the writers take the storey from here, now that the protagonist has been imprisoned. Does it look like there will be another character who could step into his shoes? Was this all part of Donna's plot to bring the Shetland detectives to justice? How is this gigantic shambles going to be cleaned up? All of these queries may have viable answers at their disposal.
The Story of Shetland Season 7
You're undoubtedly curious as to what Season 7 will have in store for you. When Shetland first premiered on television, it was merely a conventional thriller show with a group of detectives as the main characters. The plot, on the other hand, has grown more intriguing and convoluted as time has progressed. In the previous season, Jimmy Pérez was arrested, which was surely something that the audience were not expecting. Following the imprisonment of the protagonist, it will be fascinating to see where the writers take things from here. Will there be a figure that can step in to fill his shoes in the future? Was this all part of Donna's plan to infiltrate the Shetland Police Department? What method will be used to clean up this massive shambles? It is possible that all of these questions will have plausible answers. One other significant consideration to consider is the small size of the team. Duncan and Pérez are both currently incarcerated. Tuscan had became pregnant, which was revealed at the conclusion of Season 6. All that remains to be seen is how the authors will deal with the remaining episodes of this season. There is widespread speculation that another member of the team will be introduced, or that the show's direction will be changed.
Season 7 Premiere Date for Shetland
Season 6 came to a close on November 24th, and the fans are ready to find out what happens next. The show ended on a cliffhanger, with the protagonist in prison, which was extremely shocking. The production crew recently announced on Twitter that they have completed all of the work for season 6, and that they will be heading to Glasgow for the seventh season. Thus, you can consider that the preparations for the following season have already begun. Season 7 of Shetland will be released in 2022, so keep an eye out for it. However, given the short time between between seasons 5 and 6, we can anticipate the show to premiere in the first few months of 2022.
Trailer for Season 7 of Shetland
Despite the fact that the production has stated that the BBC would be picking up another season, we may conclude that filming has only recently begun. There is still a long period of time until the season begins to wane. As a result, no trailer for Season 7 has been released as of yet. Watch out during the first few months of 2022, as we might come across a trailer in which more of the plot can be deduced from the visuals. For the time being, we have very little notion what will happen throughout Season 7. It is all based on conjecture at this point.
Shetland Series vs. Novel: Which is Better?
The fact that the series is based on the novel of the same name penned by Ann Cleeves may come as a surprise to some viewers. Despite the fact that the first series was mainly based on the novels, the latter ones have strayed quite a little from the source material. Ann Cleeves, on the other hand, continues to exert considerable influence over the course of the show. However, if you like to read rather than watch television, you should definitely look at the collection of novels she has provided. “Raven Black” is the first novel in the series, followed by “White Nights,” “Red Bones,” “Blue Lighting,” “Dead Water,” “Thin Air,” “Offshore” (which is a short tale), “Too Good to Be True,” “Cold Island,” and “Wild Fire.” If you do read these novels, you will realise why the shows are so similar to each other.
Although these novels can be used to forecast Season 7, it is not entirely viable to do so due to the fact that the team is not strictly following the novel's chronological order. It is more accurate to say that they are simply drawing inspiration from the backdrop and scenarios and putting them into action on-screen. It would be rather entertaining to find out which book was utilised as a reference point when the season premieres and we could see which one was used. If you wish to continue to enjoy Shetland, we recommend that you read these volumes in order to get the greatest enjoyment out of the entire series.
