Based on the “Grishaverse” novels by fantasy writer Leigh Bardugo, Season 2 of Shadow and Bone on Netflix follows Alina and Mal as they continue their quest to defeat Aleksander, aka the Darkling, in a setting reminiscent of Tsarist Russia & populated by magical beings known as Grisha who can manipulate the elements.
The novel Siege and Storm served as inspiration for the show's second season, which upped the stakes for the main protagonists & left viewers with many doubts. Will the Grishaverse continue? Get the scoop on when you can expect to see the third season of Shadow and Bone.
Shadow and Bone Season 3 Release Date: When Can We Expect It?
The massive success of Shadow and Bone suggests that a third season is highly likely. In fact, Eric Heisserer, the show's creator & executive producer, has previously stated to Collider that he always intended for there to be three seasons.
In contrast, author Leigh Bardugo told Inverse that she would “love to see us get another five seasons” of the Grishaverse adaptation. That would truly be a historic event. Season one of Shadow & Bone premiered on Netflix in April 2021, however, due to the pandemic, fans had to wait over two years for season two.
However, production on TV shows and movies appears to be picking back up, so we may expect a third season of Shadow and Bone to premiere in the spring of 2019 based on the release dates of the first two seasons.
Is there any plot speculations for Shadow and Bone Season 3? There is currently no official plot synopsis for Season 3 of Shadow and Bone. But, the book series has ensured that we aren't completely in the dark just yet.
Storm and Siege, the second book in Bardugo's trilogy, was mostly adapted into Season 2 of Shadow and Bone. Season 3 of Shadow and Bone will undoubtedly adapt Ruin and Rising, the third book in the Grishaverse.
Without giving too much away about the end of season 2 of Shadow and Bone and the book, certain pilgrims and Soldat Sol have practically elevated Alina to sainthood (the sun soldiers led by The Apparat).
It comes at a convenient time since Alina will require all the assistance she can receive in her struggle against The Darkling's continuing influence & strength. The fate of the country will rest in Alina's Sun Summoner's hands in the forthcoming season's showdown between good & evil, so brace yourself for some high-stakes action.
Alina embraced some fairly evil power in the season 2 finale of Shadow and Bone in order to bring back Mal, the love of her life. Is that to say that she now joins us as a Shadow Summoner as well? I guess we'll find out in due time.
The Six of Crows books are a spinoff of the Shadow and Bone series, and their adventures will be featured in Season 3. Since season 1, the Six of Crows books have been related to the Netflix series, therefore the outcasts will most likely return.
Is there a Shadow and Bone season 3 trailer? The third season of Shadow and Bone does not yet have a trailer. Since Netflix hasn't renewed the series yet, we don't think that this teaser status will change either.
Who will be in the Shadow and Bone season 3 cast? No one knows who will return for Season 3 yet because it hasn't been announced. On the other hand, if the show is picked up for a third season, we can count on seeing these actors and actresses again.
Here is the expected Shadow and Bone season 3 cast:
- Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov
