Rebel Wilson's Senior Year will be the next addition to Netflix's roster of rom-com films in 2022. With the help of Todd Garner and Chris Bender, Wilson is also producing the picture. Wilson previously announced that she will take a hiatus from acting in 2020 to focus on her health. The plot revolves around a cheerleader who attempts to recapture her high school life after being in a coma for 20 years. Senior Year is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in May 2022.
Brandon Scott Jones is penning the script for the film, which is based on a spec written by Andrew Knauer and Arthur Pielli and directed by Alex Hardcastle (Grace and Frankie, Love, Simon). This will be Hardcastle's debut feature picture as a director, and he is best known for directing episodes of television shows such as Parks and Recreation, Grace and Frankie, and The Office.
Executive producers are Jeremy Stein, Jake Wagner, and Jake Weiner, and they are all from New York. The film will be produced by Paramount Players, a new subsidiary of Paramount Pictures that focuses on modern genre films from emerging directors. The film will be distributed by Netflix.
Although it was not initially reported that the picture would be available on Netflix, it appears that the streaming service has discreetly purchased the rights to it, as evidenced by the publication of issue 1242 of Production Weekly.

The plot of Senior Year
A high school cheerleader who awakens from a 20-year coma and returns to her alma mater to try to reclaim her position and win the prom queen title that has evaded her is the focus of Netflix's Senior Year series. The following is the plot summary for the film:
It takes place in 1997 and chronicles the narrative of Ruby, who is the most popular girl in her high school at the time. In addition to being the captain of the cheering team, she is also dating the quarterback, and she is well on her way to being prom queen. Girls aspire to be like her, and men desire to be with her. Until she falls from the top of the cheerleading pyramid and enters a coma, she appears to have it all figured out.
Fast forward 20 years and Ruby eventually awakens from her coma as a 37-year-old woman, having spent the previous 20 years unconscious. She returns to her high school and attempts to reclaim her former position as the school's top performer. But, most importantly, she is still focused on gaining the title of prom queen.
Cast in Senior Year
Ruby, the main character of Netflix's Senior Year, will be played by Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect, Jojo Rabbit), who will also serve as showrunner. With Senior Year, Wilson returns to the acting world after taking a year off in 2020, during which she shed 60 pounds.
This will be Rebel's first full-length Netflix Original on the streaming service. She did appear in the Netflix original film Isn't It Romantic, however, the film was only available in the United States.

The film Senior Year is a Paramount production, yet it looks to be being promoted as a Netflix exclusive. If that is the case, it should be available on all Netflix editions throughout the world.
The Senior Year's production ran from May 24, 2021, to July 27, 2021, and it was a success.
Senior Year Director, Writer, and More
Alex Hardcastle (“Grace and Frankie,” “Love, Simon”) is directing his first feature film, “Senior Year,” which will be his debut feature picture. “Parks & Recreation” and “The Office” director David Hardcastle has already directed comedy television series, so it will be intriguing to see how he performs in a feature-length comedy movie. Adapted from a spec script by Andrew Knauer.
(“The Last Stand”) and Arthur Pielli (“The Last Stand”), the script is written by Brandon Scott Jones (who co-starred with Wilson in the film “Isn't It Romantic”) (“Ghost Team One”). Presidents Jeremy Stein, Jake Wagner, and Jacob Weiner serve as executive producers for the film. Netflix and Paramount Players will collaborate on the production of the film.
What is Senior Year About?
Ruby was the most popular girl at her high school in 1997, according to her peers. In addition to serving as captain of the cheering squad and having a relationship with the quarterback of the football team, she was on her way to being crowned prom queen.
Despite the fact that Ruby appears to have everything she could possibly desire going for her when she goes from the top of a cheerleading pyramid, Ruby is left in a state of unconsciousness.
Ruby emerges from her coma as a 37-year-old woman, 20 years after going into a coma. So, rather than adjusting to her new adult life, she decides to return to high school to finish what she started, aiming to restore her position as queen bee and eventually obtain the title of prom princess. Yes, that's correct. This specific type of humor is one that I enjoy a lot.
Senior Year Trailer
The Senior Year clip demonstrates how far Wilson is ready to go in his portrayal of Stephanie, and how the traditional standards of popularity may no longer be applicable. In addition, there are far more Fast & Furious films available now than there were previously.
