Early Life

Astin was born in Santa Monica, California, on February 25, 1971. Due to her previous relationships with both Desi Arnaz Jr. and Michael Tell, his mother, actress Patty Duke, had no idea who his biological father was.

She accepted Tell's proposal to marry her while pregnant in order to avoid controversy, but their marriage lasted just 13 days and they divorced before Astin was even born.

Astin was adopted by Duke after his 1972 marriage to actor John Astin. Astin regards him as a father because they were married until 1985. In 1986, she tied the knot with Mike Pearce.

Tell, Arnaz, Astin, and Pearce are all dads to him, and he maintains a strong relationship with them all. He considers himself to have four fathers.

While still a youngster, Astin began his acting career and went on to study at Crossroads High School for the Arts and the Stella Adler Conservatory in LA. After high school, he attended UCLA and majored in history and English.
