Scott Kelly afterward enlisted in the United States Navy. He completed his first flying training at Naval Air Station Pensacola (NAS) Pensacola before being selected to fly jets. He moved to Beeville, Texas, in 1988 for jet training at Naval Air Station Chase Field.
He graduated as a naval aviator in 1989 and finished his initial F-14 training in 1990. The aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower was deployed to the North Atlantic and the Persian Gulf. Kelly flew over 8,000 hours in over 40 aircraft and made over 250 carrier landings throughout his Navy career.
