The Canadian comedy Schitt's Creek said its goodbyes at the end of season 6, although the network didn't necessarily cancel it. The sitcom was created by father-son pair Dan and Eugene Levy and shown on CBC Television in Canada, while also aired on Pop TV in the United States. The Levy brothers portrayed a family forced to relocate to a podunk village after losing their money in the series, alongside Catherine O'Hara and Annie Murphy. Despite flying under the radar for most of its existence, the series ended up being an award-winning success.
Synopsis Schitt's Creek Season 6
After being cheated by their business manager, the affluent Rose family—video store mogul Johnny (Eugene Levy), his wife and former soap opera star Moira (Catherine O'Hara), and their spoiled adult children David (Dan Levy) and Alexis (Annie Murphy)—lose their money. They reconstruct their lives using the one thing they have left: a little village called Schitt's Creek, which Johnny bought for David as a joking birthday present in 1991. [5] The Roses migrate to Schitt's Creek, where they take up residence in two adjoining rooms in a run-down hotel.
While the family adjusts to their new lives, mayor Roland Schitt (Chris Elliott), his wife Jocelyn (Jenn Robertson), the motel's manager Stevie Budd (Emily Hampshire), town council members Ronnie (Karen Robinson) and Bob (John Hemphill), veterinarian Ted Mullens (Dustin Milligan), and Jazzagal member and Café Tropical waitress Twyla Sands clash with the more provincial residents of Schitt's Creek (Sarah Levy)
About the Schitt's Creek Season 6
Schitt's Creek premiered in January 2015, following the down-on-their-luck Rose family, which included husband Johnny (Eugene Levy), wife Moira (O'Hara), and their two adult children, David (Dan Levy) and Alexis (Alexis Levy) (Murphy). The family had little option but to reside at the local hotel, which was owned by the unenthusiastic Stevie Budd when they moved to the small town of Schitt's Creek (Emily Hampshire).
Despite their initial desire to leave town and return to their luxurious lifestyle, the Rose family ultimately got more active in their new neighborhood. By season 6, David and his new spouse Patrick (Noah Reid) had decided to make the town their permanent home, while his parents relocated to California and Alexis accepted a job offer in New York.
In reality, Schitt's Creek season 6 set rating records and received rave reviews from critics. Despite the positive reception, Schitt's Creek ended in the spring of 2020, at the height of its popularity. However, the decision was made by the show's creative staff rather than the network.
Where to Watch Schitt's Creek Season 6
Season 6 is available to watch and replay indefinitely on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, GooglePlay, and YouTube if you purchase a season pass. Those who have YouTubeTV or Hulu + Live TV (rather than ordinary Hulu) may watch on-demand, and both offer free trials if you haven't tried them out yet.
Awards Won by Schitt's Creek Season 6
Season 6 of Schitt's Creek was a success, and the 2020 Emmy Awards agreed. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the program established a record for the most wins in a single season for a comedy, and it was the first comedy to sweep all four major comedy acting categories.
Dan Levy also piqued our interest in a Schitt's Creek reunion. After their wins, the cast sat down with Access Hollywood to talk about their experiences in Toronto during the award show's remote festivities (their Emmys were actually delivered by a Toronto event producer in a hazmat tuxedo suit). “If the premise is good,” Levy hasn't ruled out a film.
How did Season 5 end?
The fifth season ended with a musical act and a proposal, so it was absolutely perfect. During a mountaintop picnic, Patrick proposed to David, and *spoiler alert* he said yes. After inquiring whether the rings were “24-karat,” of course. David couldn't keep the engagement a secret until after his mother's Cabaret performance, so he told Stevie about it. However, Stevie goes missing before the concert, forcing him to inform Moira about the proposal, and soon everyone else in town learns about it before he can reveal it the way he intended.
“I found someone who transformed my life, and I don't know where I'd be without him,” David says at the hotel after-party, “so yeah, as you all now know, Patrick and I are engaged.” Stevie is upset after travel blogger Emir informs her that he doesn't see them having a meaningful relationship. Moira casts Stevie as the lead in Cabaret to help her see that underneath her “brambly tartan blouson lies a chrysalis simply overflowing with possibility.” Stevie reveals to Moira that she feels like everyone is “growing up around” her before wowing Schitt's Creek as Sally Bowles.
Ted asks Alexis to join him on a six-month study program in the Galápagos Islands, for which he has been selected. Alexis agrees to accompany him “wherever the turtles are” and to “eat, pray, and love a little” for herself, despite her initial reluctance. In the finale, Moira threw a curveball Alexis' way by hiring her daughter to manage all of her publicity.
