Sarah Shahi is an American actress and a former fashion model. She is most known for her roles as Carmen on The L Word in 2005, Kate Reed in the legal drama Fairly Legal (2011–2012), and Sameen Shaw in the crime drama Person of Interest (2012–2016) on the CBS network.

She has also made appearances in the lead character of Detective Dani Reese in the television series Life and in a supporting part in the television series Alias. In 2018, she appeared as a main character in the television series Reverie.

She made a return to the Showtime series City on a Hill in 2019 to play a recurring character.

When Sarah Shahi was born on January 10, 1980, she was reared in Euless, Texas, in the United States. One of her parents was an interior designer, while the other was an architect. They divorced when she was 10 years old. He was born and raised in Iran.  During the Iranian Revolution, her father's family fled.

When the Shah's rule fell in 1979, her father, who worked at the American embassy in Tehran, was designated for execution but was able to depart the country. A Spanish-Iranian mother gave birth to her daughter in Spain to an Iranian father.

Cyrus, Shahi's older brother, and Samantha, his production assistant sister, complete the Shahi family.   Her Persian given name, Aahoo (Persian: ), translates to ‘gazelle.' As a second-grader, Shahi acquired the name Sarah after hearing a song named “Sarah” and being bullied by other students for her birth name, Aahoo.

For the sake of her father's wishes, she was raised speaking both English and Persian at the tender age of three years old. At the age of eight, Shahi's parents started enrolling her in beauty pageants.

Shahi went to Trinity High School and Southern Methodist University, where she majored in English and Theater and served as captain of the volleyball and basketball teams.  During her tenure at SMU, she was a member of the fraternity Alpha Chi Omega.

In 1997, Shahi was crowned Miss Fort Worth.  She joined the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (1999–2000) squad, despite never having cheered before, in order to pursue her dream of becoming an actor. She later relocated to Los Angeles.

Career

She met Robert Altman while working as an extra on the set of Dr. T and the Women in Texas. He urged her to Hollywood, where she had appearances on Alias, Dawson's Creek, Reba, and Supernatural; she also appeared in a film.

In the second season of The L Word, she appears as DJ Carmen de la Pica Morales, a minor character. After the fourth season, Shahi's two-year contract was not renewed, and her character was written off.

He rose to number 66 in 2006 and number 36 in 2012 on Maxim's “Hot 100 of 2005” list. After being featured on the cover of Maxim in October 2012, she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2013. In 2007, AfterEllen.com named her the fifth hottest woman in the world.

When she starred on HBO's The Sopranos in 2007, she portrayed a stripper named Sonya Aragon, who spends a weekend with Tony following the loss of a member of his family. She was also featured in the second season of Sleeper Cell as Farah.

As Zoe, an affluent but scantily dressed girl on the run from Chris Tucker's Detective Carter, she landed a brief role in Rush Hour 3 in 2007.

In 2007, she co-starred alongside Damian Lewis in the NBC series Life as homicide investigator Dani Reese, taking on her first regular lead role in a TV series. After two seasons, the show was canceled.

Faced Kate premiered on the USA Network in October 2009, and Shahi was cast as the show's main character.

In November 2009, Shahi started filming. Kate Reed, a legal mediator who is fed up with the inefficiency and injustice she sees in the judicial system, was the subject of the episode.

Fairly Legal was the new name for the series. After two seasons, the program was canceled in November 2012.

During the same home birth that took place in March, a daughter and a son were welcomed into the world. In May of 2020, Shahi and Howey initiated the divorce process.  The finalization of their divorce took place in January of 2021.

In the year 2020, Shahi started a romantic relationship with the Australian actor Adam Demos, whom she had first met on the set of the show Sex/Life

When Shahi was younger, she trained in Shorin-Ryu karate and eventually earned the rank of first dan black belt.
