Sarah Shahi is an American actress and a former fashion model. She is most known for her roles as Carmen on The L Word in 2005, Kate Reed in the legal drama Fairly Legal (2011–2012), and Sameen Shaw in the crime drama Person of Interest (2012–2016) on the CBS network.

When Sarah Shahi was born on January 10, 1980, she was reared in Euless, Texas, in the United States. One of her parents was an interior designer, while the other was an architect. They divorced when she was 10 years old. He was born and raised in Iran. During the Iranian Revolution, her father's family fled.
When the Shah's rule fell in 1979, her father, who worked at the American embassy in Tehran, was designated for execution but was able to depart the country. A Spanish-Iranian mother gave birth to her daughter in Spain to an Iranian father.
