Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual! has been announced by HappyGiant. The latest adventure of the Freelance Police will be released on PlayStation VR the following week.
This is the sequel to the adventure game that was originally released for the Oculus Rift and Meta Quest 2 last summer. A new rookie who applies to be a member of the Freelance Police is virtually placed in your shoes in this game, almost literally. This means you'll be put through your paces in a series of drills and training challenges, all of which will be led by the point-and-click icons of the 1990s.
You'll take on a variety of minigames, all the while having the titular dog and rabbity-thing cracking jokes alongside you as you go about your business. At the same time, you'll uncover a mystery that has been hidden deep within Cap'n Aquabear's dilapidated theme park. And, yes, you will have the opportunity to use a rocket launcher to take out a giant hydra that lives in a sewer. In the same way that you do.
The development team, which includes many former LucasArts employees, is working hard to make the game feel as authentic as possible to the original Sam & Max adventure. Steve Purcell, the series' creator, and writer/designer Mike Stemmle are among those who have contributed to the series. And, of course, Sam and Max are voiced by David Nowlin and Dave Boat, who has been portraying them for many years.
