For the first time, Nicolas Cage will portray a vampire in Renfield. The actor appeared in Vampire's Kiss (1989). However, his character was not undead even though he had an unquenchable need for blood. For Universal Pictures' next Dracula movie, Cage seems to be recreating a more realistic blood-sucking energy.
Fans of Bram Stoker's classic novel are already getting excited as Renfield prepares to begin production on his monster movie with significant casting announcements such as Nic Cage joining Awkwafina and Nicholas Hoult.
There are countless horror films, so how can this vampire flick stand out? And when can we expect to see another fantastic performance from Cage on the big screen?
Renfield's cast and director, as well as the film's release date and location, are included below.
What Is Renfield's Plot?
As the film's title suggests, Renfield will focus on the “toxic and co-dependent connection” between Dracula and his henchman Vlad Tepes.
Bram Stoker initially presented Renfield in Dracula, an epistolary book published in 1897, where he first appeared as a minor character. In trying to obtain immortality, the guy became obsessed with drinking blood, which is why readers encounter him as a patient in an asylum.
Renfield is a character in the novel which develops a deep admiration for the evil Dracula and ends up working for him. By dangling his assistant's one genuine desire, Dracula, Dracula relentlessly manipulates and teases Renfield.
There aren't many specifics regarding Renfield's plot, but it appears to be an adventure comedy about a breakup. After a few millennia, Renfield and his master may have grown tired of each other. Renfield will join forces with another figure to bring down his idol.
Universal Pictures is expanding its monster movie world, and Renfield will join The Invisible Man in 2020, so expect the film to be of similar scope as well.
Who Is in Renfield's Cast?
Nicholas Hoult is Renfield's henchman in the film. As Hank McCoy/Beast in the most recent X-Men films, Hoult has become a household name in the Marvel universe. In addition to Hoult, Nicolas Cage will portray Dracula.
“A character who teams with Hoult's Renfield to take on the vampire king,” according to THR, is what Shang-Chi star Awkwafina will play. Additional cast members have not been revealed.
Chris McKay, the director of The Lego Batman Movie, will helm Robert Kirkman's Renfield, which Kirkman initially conceived. According to the outline provided by Kirkman, Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty) reworked the tale for the big screen.
What Is the Renfield Release Date?
On February 28th, 2022, Universal announced that Renfield would be released on that date. Next year, on April 14th, 2023, the long-awaited Dracula film will be released in theatres everywhere.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will begin filming in New Orleans, Louisiana, in early 2022. Renfield's filming and post-production schedule necessitate a release date in April 2023.
Is There a Trailer for Renfield?
Renfield does not yet have a trailer. When Universal Pictures releases the first trailer for the film, we will update this page.

Renfield Follows Dracula's Lackey as He Seeks Love
As previously said, Renfield will focus less on Count Dracula and more on his longstanding henchman, who finally takes a stand after centuries of suffering at the hands of his master. The 2023 Universal Pictures monster film will follow Nicholas Hoult's Renfield as he gets a new lease on life after meeting and falling in love (much like his character in Warm Bodies) with traffic cop Rebecca Quincy, Awkwafina's spunky character, according to Deadline in January 2022.
At this point, not much else is known about the plot, but I expect to learn more as the film approaches its release date, especially when a trailer is released.
Renfield Is Directed by Chris Mckay, the Director of the Tomorrow War
When details regarding Renfield were scarce in April 2021, Deadline reported that the upcoming horror-comedy would be directed by Chris McKay, who also directed the Chris Pratt-led sci-fi action picture The Tomorrow War, which was released later that year. McKay directed The Lego Batman Movie and 2wks, 1yr before the Amazon original film.
Throughout his career, he has also worked as a writer, director, and producer on various Adult Swim stop-motion animation shows, including Robot Chicken, Moral Orel, and Titan Maximum.
According to the same Deadline source, Renfield is based on a scenario penned by Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead and Invincible, both comics and TV adaptations. Ryan Ridley, a longtime Community and Rick and Morty writer, authored the screenplay.
Renfield Is Described as an ‘Extremely Violent Comedy' by Robert Kirkman
As anybody who has seen his work, whether it be in comic books or television, knows, Robert Kirkman is an expert in comedy and violence, and has developed a distinct style throughout the years. What the visionary writer informed Kevin Smith in May of 2021 on the FatMan Beyond podcast suggests that Renfield will not be an exception.
