Red, White & Royal Blue’ Sequel Receives a Special Update

Prime Video has just released a brief but noteworthy update regarding the sequel to “Red, White & Royal Blue.” In a recent discussion with Variety, Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon MGM Studios, addressed questions about the sequel's progress.

This follow-up was officially announced earlier this year, but details have been sparse. Salke's comments mark the first significant insight into the project since its confirmation, providing fans with a glimmer of information about what to expect next. Although the update is modest, it offers a hint of progress and keeps the anticipation alive for the eagerly awaited continuation of the beloved story.

“We’re really excited. We are into the second movie and can’t wait,” Salke said. “The creative is awesome.”

Released in July 2023, “Red, White & Royal Blue” received widespread critical praise and set new streaming records for Prime Video. Earlier this week, this cherished romantic comedy earned a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award in the category of ‘Outstanding Television Movie’.

“We’re so proud of the first film and getting the nomination. This morning, I was texting with [producers] Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter and Matt López, who are all just so proud,” continued Salke.

“And we obviously love the movie, so we’re committed to the follow-up and can’t wait to get it out there in the world.”

Adapted from Casey McQuiston’s celebrated novel, *Red, White & Royal Blue* chronicles the passionate romance between Alex (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the son of the United States' first female president (Uma Thurman), and Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), a British prince.

The cast also includes Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Stephen Fry, Ellie Bamber, Thomas Flynn, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D Clarke, Aneesh Sheth and Juan Castano.

During a special screening in May, director Matthew Lopez revealed that Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine will be returning to their iconic roles for an “additional chapter” in the story of their queer transatlantic romance.

At present, information about the sequel remains limited, but it is confirmed that the main actors, Lopez, and Casey McQuiston as co-writer will all be involved.
