Comedy Career
For her performance in The Westie Monologues, a touring musical that she also wrote and produced, she became a household name in Australia. Spunks and Confessions of an Exchange Student were two more hit performances that she toured with.
Pizza and the Wedge and Fat Pizza, the feature film based on the latter episode, made her a household name in Australia. Along with gaining parts in Hollywood films like 2007’s Ghost Rider starring Nicolas Cage, she finally decided to come to Los Angeles in 2011 to pursue her acting career full-time.
Bridesmaids, Rules of Engagement, and Workaholics followed Wilson’s return to the big screen in Bridesmaids, which was followed by cameos on sitcoms. Isn’t It Romantic and The Hustle, a remake of the Steve Martin classic in which she featured alongside Anne Hathaway in 2019, are two of her most recent big-screen comedy.
Wilson’s schedule was jam-packed in 2013, with roles in “anti-hate satire” Jojo Rabbit, directed by Taika Waititi, and the controversial big-screen version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats.
Rebel Wilson’s Net Worth
Rebel Wilson is a well-known comedian and actress from Australia, and she now has a net worth of $22 million. Wilson is currently most well-known for her appearances in films such as Jojo Rabbit, Cats, and the films in the Pitch Perfect trilogy. After getting her start in Australian television comedy, she successfully transitioned to audiences in North America and is most recognized for these roles.
Defamation Lawsuit
In her home Australia, Wilson triumphed in a high-profile defamation suit against Bauer Media Group in 2017. Woman’s Day, the Australian Women’s Weekly, NW magazine, and OK! magazine all published pieces on Wilson that she said painted her as a “serial liar” because of differences in her childhood and her age.
In this instance, she was granted AU $4.5 million, which at the time of this writing translates to about $3.2 million in US dollars, setting a new Australian record for damages in defamation cases.
“Any funds I earn will go to charity or scholarships or put into the Aussie film industry to produce employment,” she tweeted before the damages were awarded. Bauer Media Group successfully appealed the ruling in October 2017 and lowered the damages to $600,000, a result that Wilson herself sought to appeal before a court dismissed her desire to do so.
Personal Life
Wilson got an endorsement contract with the Australian arm of weight reduction company Jenny Craig around the time she moved to the United States in the summer of 2011. She informed the media that she had shed 22 pounds as a result of the program and that she would have lost even more if the Pitch Perfect film series’ producers had not prohibited her from dropping any more weight.
For the first time publicly, a year after 2020 she stated that she had a “career where I was paid to be bigger, at times, which kind of may screw with your brain a little.” The fact that she had left the corporation in 2012 was verified at the beginning of 2013.
At some point between September 2012 and 2015, Wilson is said to have shared a Hollywood apartment with fellow actor and comedian Matt Lucas.
Real Estate
At a cost of $3.75 million and $900,000 for improvements, Wilson purchased a waterfront mansion in her hometown Sydney in 2014 and a Victorian-style home going back to the early 1900s. In April of 2022, Rebel put this house on the market with an asking price of $6.7 million.
As an investment, she has at least one property, a luxury two-bedroom converted home in Balmain, a suburb of the city of Sydney in Australia.
Several other celebs, including Justin Timberlake, Harry Styles, and married pair Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, have all been linked to a $3 million Tribeca apartment.
“Cape Cod Colonial” architectural style “classic masterpiece” that cost over $3 million is located someplace in West Hollywood, and she has a $2.2 million property in Los Angeles that she bought at the same time (either for investment purposes or some other reason). In 2014, she spent an estimated $2.2 million for a 2,500-square-foot Hollywood Hills residence that she now calls home.
