McEntire grew up in Oklahoma as the fourth of four children. Her favorite pastimes as a kid and teen were barrel racing and athletics. As a child, she had a natural talent for singing, which her mother fostered.

To perform at community gatherings and record for a modest label, she and her siblings banded together with the support of their mother.

Afterward, McEntire enrolled at Southeastern Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in education with the goal of teaching in public schools.
