Ready Player One Metaverse: It’s Like the Metaverse Became a Reality!

Reading dystopian science fiction is a popular form of entertainment. We find it fascinating when people's imaginations about the future come to fruition. However, the most intriguing aspect is that what was once considered fiction may one day become a reality. That's what happened with the Ready Player One Metaverse!

“Ready Player One,” a novel by Ernest Cline set in the year 2045, depicts a world in which global warming and an energy crisis have gripped the planet. As a result, social problems and economic stagnation have arisen.

The only way out, according to the novel, is through a metaverse known as the OASIS, which can be accessed through a virtual reality headset and wired gloves. Metaverses serve as a virtual society in which people can interact with one another while participating in massively multiplayer online role-playing games.

To begin with, the term “metaverse” was coined by Neal Stephenson in his science fiction novel “Snow Crash,” which was published in 1992. As a virtual reality-based successor to the internet, Stephenson described it as follows: Snow Crash is a video game that depicts a metaverse in which humans interact with one another through avatars in a three-dimensional virtual space that is modeled after the physical world.

After all these years, who would have imagined that the metaverse would finally become a reality? Facebook announced in October 2021 that they were changing the name of the company to Meta. The social media behemoth has chosen Meta as their new company brand, which will bring the metaverse to life and assist people in connecting with one another, finding communities, and growing their businesses.

The concept of a metaverse makes sense for Facebook, given that the social media giant already represents users online through the creation of a fictitious social media society. By transforming into Meta, the company will be able to expand online social experiences into three dimensions or have them projected into the physical world, as desired.

What Happens Next Now That the Metaverse Has Arrived?

The metaverse, by providing an alternate digital universe, has the potential to completely transform the way we live, work, and play. It represents the coming together of our physical and digital selves. With augmented reality (AR), extended reality (XR), and virtual reality (VR), we are practically entering a new phase of the Internet that involves the integration of digital and physical reality in our physical world.

Contrary to popular belief, metaverse platforms, which will most likely be powered by blockchain technology, will allow people to own as well as build and trade virtual assets by using digital currencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

In the virtual reality platform Decentraland, users can buy, sell, and develop LAND using a metaverse token. Decentraland is an example of a blockchain-based virtual reality token. The virtual universe allows players to create content and interact with one another as well as with other players.

Please keep in mind, however, that the odds on who will be the first to successfully create a metaverse are still very wide open. Prior to investing in any digital currency asset that claims to be a part of the metaverse, it is always recommended that you conduct your own research.

We both agree that metaverse tokens are poised to become a major player in the digital asset space in the foreseeable future.
